Yesterday at Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium, the 42nd The Time- Reporter Charity All-Star game took place, before a midsize crowd in 90 plus degree heat. Defense would rule the night, with the teams combining for just 369 total yards. Unofficially the winning West team would amass 262 yards, compare to just 107 for the East squad. The teams would total 110 plays, with 5 interceptions being thrown.
The West would get a 21-yard gain from Shane Jones (West Holmes) on a pitch to the right, where he used some nice blocking from his line along with some nice field vision. With 8:36 showing on the first quarter clock, quarterback, Bridger Cline (West Holmes) connected with Kyler Folkert (Dover) for a 10-yard gain and another first down. Folkert would get a 17-yard gain later in the drive on a fine run down to the East 6-yard line. The East defense would shut down the drive and make the West settle for a 21-yard field goal, from Keith Claxton (Ridgewood), to make this a 3-0 game, with 6:33 left on the opening quarter clock.
The remaining time left in the opening quarter would see two fine plays from the West defense, with the first coming from Kory Stress (Garaway) stopped Cade Williams (Indian Valley) on a 3rd and two play. The 2nd play came when Harold Tipton (Riverview) crushed Tyler Farrow (Claymont) for a 3 yard loss.
The 2nd quarter would see both teams getting a pick and the West getting the games first touchdown. The East would get the first pick, when Tanner Myers (Indian Valley) stepped in front of a Bridger Cline (West Holmes) pass at the 8:22 mark. The West pick came from, Braden Allen (West Holmes) at the 7:23 mark. The quarterback for the East on this play was Cade Williams (Indian Valley). A nice pass and catch from Cline to Claxton, would set up the West touchdown, that came on a 4th and seven play. Cline would find Shane Jones for the score. The point after kick from Claxton would make this a 10-0 game, at the 1:11 mark of the quarter.
The 2nd half was a dominance of both defenses. Neither team was ever able to jell on offense, especially in this half The West would score a touchdown, when Folkert scored from 2-yards out. The point after off of the foot of Claxton would make this a 17-0 game. There would be a total of five turnovers in the half, with three interceptions and two fumbles. The first turnover came right before, the only score of the half and that was a fumble recovery by Owen Poland (Dover), on the East 9-yard line. The East would get a fumble recovery of their own, when Tyler West (Harrison Central) pounced on the ball that Stress coughed up. The first pick was made by Teagin Mohn (Carrollton) on a pass thrown by Cline). That play would be the last play of noticed in the defensive 3rd quarter.
The fourth quarter would see the final two picks, with the first coming on a nice read by Jarrod Hicks (Tusky Valley) of the West. The 2nd and final play of notice in the final stanza came from Payton Taylor (Harrison Central) of the East.
