West squad takes the victory in the PSFCA Small School All Star Game

In the second annual PSFCA small school, all-star football game the West squad prevailed in a 49-14 win. The West dominated the game from the start behind the unexpected starting QB Mercury Swaim of Bedford. Swaim on playing QB unexpectedly “Our two QBS got pulled out so I got advised Thursday night I will be the QB, so I learned the playbook in a day and went and threw for the first time since our season ended”. Coach Bailey Head Coach of Richmond and of the West Squad on his quarterback “We had some late scratches at quarterback, so we knew we had Swaim from Bedford who can step in, he played great” He threw for 253 yards, rushed for another 89 yards and had a total of 5 TDS. 

The opening drive was led by Swaim with his rushing and passing. He capped it off with an 11-yard rushing Touchdown, to take a 7-0 lead. The East responded when Jake Hall of North Schuylkill hit Trevor Amorim of Norther Lehigh with a 69 yard touchdown pass. 

The west responded with four straight touchdowns. Swaim rushed for 2 TDS and threw 2 TDS. He threw a 49 yard TD to Keith Charney of Windber and a 22 yard TD to Griffin Larue. At the half the West lead 35-7. 

In the 2nd half the East responded with a opening touchdown drive when Jake Hall hit Anorim again with a 15 yard touchdown pass. The west responded again with two touchdowns runs from Logan Kent of Conemaugh Valley and Garrett Burns of of Bald Eagle. The West dominated the game with a final score of 49-14. 

On both lines of scrimmage the West had a huge advantage. Coach Bailey on the play of his offensive line “The offensive line was awesome today and they really wanted to play football and they had a great time and enjoyed playing together”. The other key advantage they had was in the secondary. They dominated the wide receivers from the East squad . Coach Bailey said “We have a lot of athleticism in the secondary”.  In the 2nd edition of PSFCA small school all star game coach Bailey had this to say about the game “We practiced the last two Sundays, kids got to know each other and put it all together today. We are thankful to the PSFCA coaches association for putting this on.”
