Clymer Central/Sherman/Panama head coach, Ty Harper, said after his team’s 28-7 triumph over Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove, “I was talking to Coach Payne our defensive coordinator on the sidelines as time was winding down, and I think he said it perfectly when he said, ‘man I think we answered a lot of questions today.’”  The victorious Wolfpack had graduated 17 starters on offense and defense from the team that played in the spring due to Covid according to Coach Harper.  “You never know how kids are going to react till the bullets fly.  Our guys passed the first test and we’re happy for them,” he added.

After returning the opening kickoff to the 47, CSP scored their first touchdown of the 2021 season in three plays.  A 32-yard dash by Gabe Roth was followed by a 17-yard scurry by Austin White which was followed by Roth’s 4-yard TD run.  Bryce Hinsdale booted the first of his four PATs on the day and in less than a minute the Wolfpack led 7-0.   It stayed that way till the second quarter when QB Kurtis Olson used the sneak to score from the one on fourth down to put the home team up 14-0.

The only highlight of the day for the Golden Cougars of FCVMG came when Jackson Gowan returned the subsequent kickoff 85 yards to make it a one score game at 14-7.  Then with 83 seconds left in the half, Roth found the end zone from 15 yards out and CSP took a 21-7 lead into the intermission.  The Wolfpack scored the final TD of the game in the third quarter when Olson hit Lucas Lisciandro with a 5-yard scoring pass.  “Our quarterback is a smart kid, a National Honor Society kid, quiet but a good leader.  He said the bootleg was there if we wanted it.  We called it and scored.  That kind of tells you where his head’s at already in his first start,” stated Harper.

CSP held the Golden Cougars to 19 total first half yards and 82 for the game.  They also forced 3 turnovers, recovering 2 fumbles and picking off a pass.  Coach Harper said, “Chris Payne does a fantastic job with the defense.  And it’s a credit to the kids the way they fly around and make plays.  I was also proud of our offensive line.  That’s probably the area of the greatest returning experience.  Kyle Ryan at one of the tackles and Hayden Heiser at the other tackle spot, those two were great as far as leadership goes.  I am really pleased with the offensive line today.”  That line allowed CSP to rush for 266 yards and pass for another 100.  White garnered 113 yards on 18 carries and Roth scooted for 110 on 20 totes to lead the way on the ground.

CSP travels to Catt-Little Valley for a Friday night game next week, while Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove hosts Silver Creek/Forest on Friday night also.
