Last night I made the short trip from Bellaire to Martins Ferry for the 2nd game of my doubleheader. Frontier VS Bridgeport. Bridgeport has played their home games here while their own field goes through A major reconstruction. I will be making A trip next season to see how good it looks. I am using the Frontier roster from hudl.com and it is not very good. The Bellaire roster comes from the online digital program provided by Ohio Valley high school digital guide.
Frontier started early and never let up in this one. Things got started when JD Schmidt found Matt Lang to convert A 3rd and nine. Then #20 (NOT ON THE ROSTER) broke three tackles on his way to a 10 yard gain. The 60-yard drive ended on A #44 (three of them on the roster) muscled in from 2 yards out. Schmidt found Lang on A two-point conversion pass making this an 8-0 game. The Bulldogs muffed the ensuing kickoff and making the recovery for the Cougars was #88 (NOT ON THE ROSTER). Lang would score A short time later with #20 running in the two-point conversion to make this a 16-0 game, with 7:06 left in the opening quarter. At the 5:38 mark, Schmidt picked off a Bulldog pass and took it back to the Bulldogs 4 yard line. The ensuing drive ended at the 2-yard line, when 44 fumbles the ball, and the Bulldogs, Christian Waterman came up with it. After quickly getting the ball back Frontier got A 20 yard gain from #20, who caught a screen pass and broke a tackle on his way to the gain. Schmidt scored on an 8-yard run and then he found Lang for another 2 point conversion to make the A 24-0 game, with 1:49 left in the quarter. On the last play of the quarter, the Cougars got on the scoreboard again when Schmidt found Lang for A 21-yard touchdown to make this a 30-0 game.
The 2nd quarter wasn’t three minutes old when #60 (NOT ON THE ROSTER) recovered A Bridgeport fumble. Nothing would happen until the 4:45 mark of the quarter when Lang put the ball on the ground and making the recovery for the Bulldogs was Joey Bugaj.
The Frontier defense sacked Colin Jackson, with the sack coming by #20. Lang would later pick up 34 yards on A nice little reverse. The last score of the half came on A Schmidt to #88 (NOT ON THE ROSTER) 23-yard pass. #44 ran n the two-point conversion to make this A 38-0 game.
The 2nd half went by very fast with the running clock rule put into play. Two plays stuck out, with the first being A sack by #20 on Jackson and the other was A 1 yard run by #44 for another Cougars score. The P.A.T. by Schmidt was wide and short leaving this a 44-0 game, after three quarters.
#20 would score for Frontier on A 22-yard run to make this a 50-0 game. The Bulldogs, who dressed A little over 20 players and are super young refused to quit and with 4:08 left in the game, they would avoid the shutout with Peyton Pyle scoring on A 9-yard run to make this a 50-6 game and that is the way this one ended.
