NEW TRIPOLI- Iron Mike Tyson once said, “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth”. Friday night Northwestern Lehigh Tigers came out swinging by scoring the first twenty-five points and coasted to a dominate 53-24 victory in a Schuylkill/Colonial League Gold Division contest over the Bangor Slaters.
Junior wide-receiver Cade Christopher had himself quite a night accounting for four touchdowns while piling up 99 yards rushing and receiving for the victors. He got the scoring spree going just 58 seconds in the contest by taking a hand-off 47 yards to the house on just the third play from scrimmage and a 7-0 lead with Luke Benvin’s PAT.

After the Tigers defense forced a Bangor punt, the offense went back to work going 80 yards in seven plays, capped by a 37 yard pass from Justin Holmes to Christopher to take a 15-0 lead with 6:27 left in the opening quarter as Christopher converted the two-point conversion;

The next time the Tigers had the ball they drove inside the Bangor five, but two bad snaps prevented them from cashing in for six points and had to settle for a Benvin’s 30 yard field goal and a 18-0 lead with 2:47 left.

Bangor finally stopped the bleeding at the 2:48 mark before half as quarterback Eric Striba scored from 19 yards out to cut the deficit to 25-6. Then on the Tigers ensuing drive, on the second play, Kael Godshalk picked up a Holmes fumble and returned it 39 yards to make the score 25-12.

Northwestern and Justin Holmes had plenty of time and three timeouts as they made use of the sidelines as Holmes matriculated the ball down field to the Slater 12 and Holmes again found Christopher who made a spectacular diving catch with just five ticks left till half. Holmes then found Ryan McDonald in the corner of the end zone for the conversion making it 33-12 at intermission.

The signal-caller picked up 94 yards rushing while completing 12 of 21 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns.
