District X Class A Playoff Preview

The District 10 Class A Playoffs will occur on Saturday, November 4th.

#2 Cambridge Springs vs. #7 Maplewood – 7 pm @ General McLane High School.

#3 Eisenhower vs. #6 Reynolds – 7 pm @ Warren’s War Memorial Stadium

#4 Cochranton vs. #5 Mercer – 7 pm @ Meadville High School

About the Lakeview Sailors

Record 8-2 – Seed 1

Summary – Lakeview enters the playoffs as the top seed after finishing their best regular season campaign since 2013. Like that historic 2013 squad, the Sailors will look to win their second District X Title. Mitchell Tingley has rushed for 1244 yards and 15 touchdowns for the Sailors. Danick Hinkson has nearly 500 yards receiving while adding over 100 yards rushing, scoring ten total touchdowns.

About the Cambridge Springs Blue Devils

Record – 9-1 – Seed 2

Summary – After a 9-1 regular season, the Blue Devils get the number two seed by virtue of their 28-22 loss to Lakeview on October 6th. Cambridge Springs has been dominant this season, applying the mercy rule to all but three opponents during the regular season. Sophomore running back Brett Kania leads the Blue Devils on offense with 1037 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. Jordan Washington, Preston Gorton, and Josh Gorton each have over 500 yards combined for 21 touchdowns. Josh Gorton also has 113 tackles, while Tristen Mazzadra has 11 sacks. Morgan Applebee has thrown for 618 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions.

About the Eisenhower Knights

Record – 7-3 – Seed 3

Summary – Eisenhower will look to return to the District 10 championship after falling to Reynolds 28-14 last season. This year, the Knights open up the postseason against the Raiders. The Knights are led by their ground game, with Logan Penley leading the way with 711 yards and five touchdowns. Tucker Lindell and Ryan Chambers have rushed for 635 and 336 yards, respectively. Lindell leads the Knights with 12 rushing touchdowns. Shawn Pascuzzi has passed for 715 yards while adding 563 yards on the ground with 17 total touchdowns.

About the Cochranton Cardinals

Record – 5-3 – Seed 4

Summary – After a 1-year hiatus, Cochranton returns to the playoffs after a 5-3 regular season. The Cardinals are led by their rushing attack, with tailbacks Noah Cummings, Isaiah Long, and Blake Foulk leading the way. Cochranton will rematch Mercer, having knocked off the Mustangs 16-13 on September 22nd.

About the Mercer Mustangs

Record 5-4 – Seed 5

Summary – Mercer will seek revenge on Cochranton after falling to the Cardinals 16-13 on September 22nd. Daemyin Mattocks has rushed for 1027 yards and 15 scores in nine games, while Carter Addison has chipped in with 757 yards and 11 touchdowns. It’s no secret how the Mustangs want to play football, as they have passed for only 195 yards in nine games.

About the Reynolds Raiders

Record – 4-6 – Seed 6

Summary – The 3-time defending District 10 champions enter the 2023 playoffs as a sixth seed and will take on Eisenhower in the opening round, having beat the Knights 28-14 for the district crown last season. Reynolds had some big shoes to fill during the season, and despite some growing pains, the Raiders will look to be a threat in the postseason. Gabe Minjarez has rushed for over 800 yards, while quarterback Gavin Alabran has accounted for over 1000 yards of offense.

About the Maplewood Tigers

Record 3-7 – Seed 7

Summary – Maplewood enters the postseason with a 3-7 record but has beaten the 3-time defending champions Reynolds 27-6 on September 23rd. The Tigers will face a tall task when they take on 9-1 Cambridge Springs, who beat them 41-0 on September 8th. Freshman quarterback Kyle Jordan has thrown for 881 yards and 12 touchdowns while rushing for 309 yards and three scores to lead the Tigers.
