Introducing the 2021 All-Backyard Team! 17 of the best players from four of the best conferences in the WPIAL! The team is comprised of top talent from the 1A Tri-County South, 2A Century, 3A Interstate and 4A Big Eight! Let’s Meet the Team!

Devin Whitlock, Belle Vernon Area, QB/DB

In 2021 Devin Whitlock put his stamp on WPIAL leading the Leopards to the 4A WPIAL Championship at Heinz Field. In his Senior season, Whitlock went 64 for 96 and eclipsed 1000 passing yards and 1189 Rushing Yards. Whitlock also led the team with 23 rushing TDs and 9 Passing. Whitlock was no stranger to dramatics either, scoring a walk off TD in Week 4 to beat the rival Thomas Jefferson Jaguars. Welcome to the  2021 All-Backyard Team Devin Whitlock!

Quinton Martin, Belle Vernon Area, RB/DB

2021 was a true coming out party for this former Monessen running back. Martin came second on the team with 902 rushing yards and over 150 receiving yards. Martin also earned a 4 star 247 ranking for the 2024 class along with notching 12 Touchdowns on the ground for the Leopards. Welcome to the 2021 All-Backyard Team Quinton Martin!

Rodney Gallagher, Laurel Highlands, QB/DB

This Uniontown athlete made the full transition to Quarterback in 2021 and it paid off for Laurel Highlands as Rodney Gallagher led the Mustangs to their first playoff victory in school history. The dual sport star paved the way throwing for over 1300 yards and 12 touchdowns while rushing for over 1100 and scoring 21 TDs on the ground. Welcome to the 2021 All-Backyard Team Rodney Gallagher!

Colin Brady, West Greene, RB/LB

Just two years removed from graduating the leading rusher in WPIAL history, West Greene has produced another generational talent at running back in sophomore Colin Brady. Brady rushed for over 1400 yards in West Greene’s Tri-County South title season scoring 20 TDs along the way. Welcome to the 2021 All-Backyard Team Colin Brady!

Bobbie Boyd Jr., McKeesport Area, RB/DB

Bobbie Boyd lit up the Big Eight conference in his first year as the feature back in the patent Tigers flexbone system. The Junior tiger rushed for 1545 yards and 17 TDs, leading the Tigers to the WPIAL Semifinals. Boyd was also key on defense, notching 4 interceptions and 5 sacks out of the Tigers secondary. Welcome to the 2021 All-Backyard Team Bobbie Boyd Jr. !

Nick Bryan, Thomas Jefferson, OL/DL

Nick Bryan continued the tradition in 2021 of Thomas Jefferson dominance in the trenches. Bryan was the key cog in an offensive line that blocked for a rushing attack that gained over 2300 yards on the year. Over the season, Bryan committed to play collegiately for the Kent State Golden Flash. Welcome to the 2021 All-Backyard Team Nick Bryan !

Cole Weightman, Belle Vernon, TE/DE

One of the most dominant LBs in the area in 2020 transitioned to the defensive line and it couldn’t have gone any better. Weightman led a defense that did not allow more than 28 points all year. Weightman individually collected 81 takles, 23 TFLs and 7 sacks to conclude a dominant defensive career. Weightman also had 15 receptions for 233 yards as a Tight End on offense. Welcome to the 2021 All-Backyard Team Cole Weightman !

Davontay Brownfield, Elizabeth Forward RB/DB

In 2021 Davontay Brownfield made a name for himself on both offense and defense, leading the Elizabeth Forward Warriors to the WPIAL semifinals and an Interstate Title. In the Warriors quarterfinal victory, Brownfield rushed for 154 yards and scored the go ahead TD. Welcome to the 2021 All-Backyard Team Davontay Brownfield !

Jordan Mayer, Thomas Jefferson TE/DL

Jordan Mayer impressed college scouts across the country as one of the top defensive linemen in the Big Eight. Mayer led one of the top defenses in 4A with 39 tackles. Welcome to the 2021 All-Backyard Team Jordan Mayer !

Davoun Fuse, Washington QB/DB

Davoun Fuse took a monstrous step into 2021, leading the Wash High revenge tour and winning the Century. Fuse threw for 11 TDs and ran for 14 while also beating Century defending champs McGuffey on the final play of the game with a passing TD with the clock expired. Welcome to the 2021 All-Backyard Team Davoun Fuse !

Carlos Harper, Washington RB/LB

One of the newest stars of 2021, Carlos Harper stood out defensively in the Century, representing the conference as the First Team LB in the State 2A team. Harper was the defensive leader of a team that only allowed more than 21 points once all year. Welcome to the 2021 All-Backyard Team Carlos Harper !

Trenton Carter, Carmichaels Area QB/DB

Trenton Carter capped his second season behind center with the Mighty Mikes in historic fashion, throwing and rushing for over 1000 yards each. Carter also led the Mikes to a return to the WPIAL playoffs and a second place finish in the Tri County South. Welcome to the 2021 All-Backyard Team Trenton Carter !

Michael Stewart, Carmichaels Area RB/DB

Stewart joined Carter in leading one of the most high flying offenses in Carmichaels history. The dynamic duo rolled through Tri County South competition, with Stewart right behind Carter in leading the team in yards and touchdowns. Welcome to the 2021 All-Backyard Team Michael Stewart !

Tyre Demery, McKeesport Area RB/DB

Demery at center was the key cog in the McKeesport Flexbone offense that led the Big Eight in rushing and powered three of the top rushers in the WPIAL. On defense, Demery shined in pass rush and brutalized opposing offensive lines all season, leading a defense that did not give up more than two scores to any WPIAL team in the first 9 weeks of the season. Welcome to the 2021 All-Backyard Team Tyre Demery !

Zach Boyd, Elizabeth Forward WR/DB

This Warriors wideout was a human highlight reel in 2021. In the Interstate championship game with Mt. Pleasant, Boyd shined with a multi-TD performance, including a “You Got Mossed” Finalist. Along with QB Zion White, Boyd revitalized the Warriors passing game in 2021. Welcome to the 2021 All-Backyard Team Zach Boyd !

Kanye Thompson, McKeesport Area RB/DB

Kanye Thompson had a knack for scoring at opportune times in 2021 and was one of the most exciting players in 4A. Right after an equalizing TD against Thomas Jefferson, Kanye Thompson  broke the game open with a kickoff return touchdown. Thompson helped lead the Tigers to a WPIAL Semifinals appearance. Welcome to the 2021 All-Backyard Team Kanye Thompson !

Landan Stevenson, Mapletown RB/DB

Landan Stevenson ran over Tri County South competition in 2021, leading the Maples to a WPIAL playoff berth. Stevenson carried the Maples offense to 1725 yards over the course of the year, along with 24 TDs. Stevenson even had nearly 250 yards through the air and 1 TD there as well. Welcome to the 2021 All-Backyard Team Landan Stevenson !
