Mike Huber, Shane Stump and Logan Danielson are ready to eat in Hershey

Thomas Jefferson quarterback Shane Stump found Daniel Deabner twice for long scoring throws in the first quarter and Dylan Mallozzi scored from nine yards out to put Thomas Jefferson up 22-0 in the first quarter. After a slow second period, the Jaguars came out rolling in the second half, invoking the mercy rule on their way to a 44-2 win, earning them a trip to Hershey next Thursday.

“We wanted to jump out quick on them early and force them into something they didn’t want to do” said TJ Head Coach Bill Cherpak. “It wasn’t easy, we kinda put ourselves in bad field position there in the second quarter and gave up that safety but we responded there in the second half and did what we wanted to do.”

For Stump, it was a special night. “I can’t believe this. We’re going to Hershey! But seriously, without my line we can’t do the things we do.” Stump had plenty of time to throw and Mallozzi found some gaping holes allowing him to rush for two tds and 154 yards.

For the Pioneers, they just couldn’t get their offense in gear. “They made us one dimensional. We’re a team that likes to run first, then mix in the pass. We just weren’t able to make the passing game work for us” said Lampeter Head Coach John Manion. The TJ defense nabbed four interceptions, one by Ian Hansen that stopped the Pioneers only scoring threat in the first half. “That was pretty important for us” said the senior DB. “We wanted to keep them on their heels”. Hansen had two interceptions on the day.

TJ forced three straight three and out series’ and capitalized on all three. The first score came after a shanked punt gave the Jags the ball at the Pioneer 40. Mallozzi scored from the 9 and capped it with the 2 pointer to put TJ up 8-0.  It took just one play after the next Lampeter punt for the Jags to score again. Stump hit a wide open Deabner to make it 15-0 with 5:31 left in the first.

Deabner hauled in a 35 yard td putting the Jags up 22-0 with just seconds left in the first quarter.  Things got a bit dicey for them after that. The Pioneers put together their best drive of the day, getting to the 5 yard line but a penalty pushed them back to the ten.  Hansen brought the drive to a stop with his first interception, but TJ was pinned at their own 4.  A few plays later Christian Garver crashed through the line and brought Stump down in the endzone.

After the intermission, it was all Jaguars. Stump hit Hansen on a screen and the speedster broke a few tackles on his way to six. Another quick score, this from Mallozzi, and the clock went into running mode.

For Lampeter-Strasburg, their season ends at 11-4. Thomas Jefferson will face either Jersey Shore or Dallas in Hershey for the PIAA Class 4A crown on Thursday night.
