PIAA District XI playoffs are set and there are 28 teams are left to compete.

6A

The #1 seed is the Parkland Trojans, who play with good defense and running game. I always say in November it takes also a quarterback with a passing game that may win it for you.

Freedom’s quarterback Brian Taylor has improved as the season progressed. He also scores and does things with his legs. He will be a factor as the Patriots make a run.

The next four teams, Northampton, Nazareth, Emmaus, and Easton, all could make a run. Nazareth and Northampton have good quarterback play.

Freedom registered a 31-17 win in earlier in September over Easton. The two meet again Friday in Bethlehem in a 6A quarterfinal. They have the EPC leading rusher in Deabdre Crawford.

Nazareth saw everything go wrong in a Week 8 35-7 loss at Emmaus. They’ll get another chance Friday at home in a 6A quarterfinal. Quarterback Sonny Sasso can light it up.

Northampton beat Pleasant Valley 35-12 in Week 7. The Konkrete Kids host the Bears on Friday in the Class 6A quarterfinals. The Konkrete Kids are 10-0 for the first time ever.

My favorite: Freedom Patriots

Surprise team: Northampton Konkrete Kids.

5A

This bracket has 3 teams with losing records. East Stroudsburg South had a team on the centuries last year and was unable to play in Districts due to COVID-19. They are on a mission to capture the crown.
Whitehall is the defending champions and may have a tussle with Southern Lehigh in the semi-finals.

Southern Lehigh’s running back Blaze Curry is a force to be reckoned with Blaze Curry, Southern Lehigh: 166 carries; 992 yards; 6.0 yards/run; 10 TD.

My favorite: East Stroudsburg South

Surprise team: Southern Lehigh

4A

This bracket has 4 very good football teams in it. Northwestern Lehigh went undefeated and is the #1 seed. Pottsville is coming off a win vs North Schuylkill and is a very good football team.
Allentown Central Catholic can surprise them all. Wilson Area is also coming off its best football game of the season an upset win over Notre Dame Green Pond.

Jazce Carabello-Snowell, Pottsville: 67-122; 1,105 yards; 13 TD; 4 INT
Travontai Davis, Pottsville: 138 carries; 1,235 yards; 8.9 yards/run; 15 TD
Amari Dunn, Pottsville: 25 catches; 315 yards; 4 TD
Zack Gillen, Wilson: 52 catches 740 yards; 7 TD

My Favorite: Northwestern Lehigh

Surprise Team: Allentown Central Catholic

3A

This is all North Schulkill’s to lose. The Spartans are a ranked very good football team. The could win the state championship under coach Wally Hall. Notre Dame Green Pond started fast and good, but has fallen off the last few weeks and may not be a factor.

Josh Chowansky: 184 carries 1,424 yards; 12 TD will be a huge factor in this run. Jake Hall: 110-177; 2,059 yards; 28 TD; 4 INT in a very balanced attack for North Schuylkill.

My favorite: North Schuylkill

Surprise team: Jim Thorpe

2A

Northern Lehigh Bulldogs lost 3 games all t good opponents. Northwestern Lehigh, Notre Dame Green Pond, and North Schuylkill. It was very competitive in all 3 losses. (a 4A and 2-3A’s) They are a very balanced attack football team and very dangerous to go deep in the state playoffs. They are also coming off a 4-game winning streak.

Led by running back Matt Frame, 114 carries, 911 yards, and 13 touchdowns. Dylan Smoyer, quarterback, 87-146; 1,580 yards; 21 TD; 6 INT.

My favorite: Northern Lehigh

Surprise Team: Catasauqua

1A

This is Tri-Valley’s to lose. A 14-0 win over Williams Valley last week set the tone for the playoffs. Looks like a rematch is in the offering. Williams Valley is no pushover and could make this very hard.

Kameron Wetzel, Tri-Valley running back: 76 carries 663 yards. 8.7 yds/run; 10 TD

My favorite: Tri-Valley

Surprise team: Pottsville Nativity BVM
