Richland took the first steps to defending their D6 crown last night with a convincing 42-14 win over Central Cambria. The Rams started quickly, after holding the Red Devils to a three and out. They drove 59 yards in two plays. Richland is blessed with a bounty of underclassmen at the skilled positions. Sophomore running back Grayden Lewis ran it twice straight up the middle and was in the end zone for the first of his two touchdowns. Lewis would finish the night with over 200 yards rushing and receiving. Autumn Facci added the first of her 6 extra points and it was 7-0 Rams less then two minutes into the game.

Central Cambria started their next drive at midfield. They drove to the Richland 32 but on fourth and three they came up inches short. The Rams drove 71 yards in just under four minutes mixing the pass and the run. The Rams had a fourth and three at the Red Devil 3. Two more of Richland’s young stars would come up with a play. Junior quarterback Kellan Stahl hit junior receiver Griffin Larue for a three yard touchdown pass. Stahl would end up with 250 yards passing and 5 touchdowns(4 passing, 1 rushing). Larue would end up with 5 catches including two touchdowns. The Rams led 14-0 at the 2:34 mark.

CC’s next drive started badly with a fumble and near pick six before a personal foul gave them a first down. However three plays later they were forced to punt.

As the second quarter started the Rams drove 59 yards for their third touchdown. The drive lasted a minute and 15 seconds and it was 21-0. Stahl hit Lewis on a well blocked screen pass and he raced down the left sideline for the score.

It would take the Red Devils a minute 39 seconds to answer back. Starting at midfield again they picked up a first down and then scored from 39 yards out.

Junior running back Hobbs Dill took the handoff, swept right and threw deep.

Senior receiver Nate Wyrwas won the battle for the ball and the Red Devils had scored.

Richland would make it 4 for 4. They drove 57 yards in 3 minutes and 19 seconds. Again the Rams mixed the run and the pass. Stahl would finish this drive himself with a one yard touchdown run. The Rams were up 28-7.

The Red Devils next drive ended with a sack on fourth down from the Rams 32.

Senior 270 pound nose tackle Connor Ranger literally shot thru the CC offensive line sacking Red Devil quarterback Ian Little before he could drop back and set up. How can CC hope to stop the Rams offense? Another big play by a defensive linemen. Junior end Issac Bellomo batted Stahl pass up into the air and then picked it off. The Red Devils had the ball at the Rams 45 and a little over a minute to go in the half. The first play basically ended the drive when the ball was snapped over Little’s head for a 20 yard loss. The Rams got the ball back with 24 seconds and 66 yards to go. They get 51 yards as the half came to an end.

The Red Devils would try two onside kicks in the game neither would go ten yards. The first was the opening kickoff of the second half. Taking advantage of the short field the Rams drove 47 yards for touchdown number five in one minute 26 seconds. Stahl hit Larue in the end zone and Larue out fought a defender for his second touchdown. It was 35-7 Rams.

The scoring would stop for the quarter. The Red Devils were stopped on fourth and two from the Rams 44. CC’s Nolan Wyrwas would intercept Stahl to end the Rams next drive. The Rams Sam Penna would pick off Little to end the Red Devils next drive. A sideline penalty would end the Rams next drive and we went to the fourth quarter.

The Red Devils in an attempt to get back in the game drove 76 yards to the Ram one. They were stopped 4 straight times. Richland would then get to the mercy rule driving 92 yards in five and a half minutes. Stahl’s fourth touchdown pass of the game went to Sam Penna who fought his way into the end zone. CC ran the kickoff back to the Ram 35 and scored two plays later when Levi Keiper went in from one yard out. Richland would run out the clock. Final Rams 42 Red Devils 14

Game Notes

Thanks to Richland SD-you guys were awesome and friendly while keeping everyone safe. The Bands and Cheerleaders were great. Good luck to the Rams in the playoffs. The good news for the Red Devils is unlike past seasons when you lose in the playoffs the season is over, this year they can keep playing.

Players of the Game

Central Cambria- Nolan Wyrwas, a sophomore has the speed and skills. He had an interception and his kick returns gave the Red Devils great field position all night.

Richland-Grayden Lewis is a very good back and only a sophomore. This running helped set up a big passing game for Stahl.
