The Ridgway Elkers claimed their second consecutive D-9 League Large School Title when they scored a 28-14 victory over Brookville last week.  Coudersport won the D-9 League Small School North Division with a convincing 42-0 win against Smethport.  The state ranked Falcons are the only District Nine squad that remains unbeaten.  The Small School South Division has tri-champs.  They are Keystone, Redbank Valley, and Union/A-C Valley.  Earlier in the year Keystone’s Panthers lost to the RBV Bulldogs, but beat the Union/A-C- Valley Falcon Knights.  Last week found Union defeating Redbank and Keystone winning to create the logjam.  All have non-conference games this week.

If everything stays the same Clearfield will be the #2 seed at the 4A level in the D-6 and D-9 regional playoffs.  St. Marys should be the 3 seed in the D-5, D-8, and D-9 sub-regional.  It looks as though 6 teams will enter the D-9 AA playoffs.  The teams in order of seeding as of now are Ridgway, Clarion, Brookville, Keystone, Karns City, and Kane.  The D-9 single A playoff picture is a little murky as to how many teams will get in.  Coudersport will garner the top seed, followed by Redbank Valley, Union/A-C Valley, Smethport, and more than likely Elk County Catholic.  Otto-Eldred could be the 6th team if they elect to participate.  In District Nine schools with a losing record usually do not throw their hat into the playoff arena.

Christian Coudriet (St. Marys) continues to lead D-9 in passing yardage with 2,234.  Cole Sebastian (Otto-Eldred) is a close second with 2,075.  Sebastian is tops in TD passes with 24, followed by Clarion’s Cal German with 21.  Ethan Burford (Clarion) has the most yards receiving with 872.  Ian Thrush (Brookville) is second with 859.  Thrush has the most receptions with 63, while Ethan Smith (Otto-Eldred) has 47.  Burford has caught 13 TD tosses, while Smith has nabbed 12.  There are a couple of thousand-yard rushers in D-9.  Austin Newcomb of Clarion has 1,049 and Travis Gleason of Coudy has 1,037.  Gleason has 18 TDs on the ground and Newcomb 17.  Newcomb does have 22 touchdowns overall, while Gleason has 19.
