PROTIME PREDICTIONS: WEEK 3, WHO YA GOT?

Tagged under: News, pfn, Protime Predictions

| September 11, 2019

Protime took a little jaunt down ‘Memory Lane’ last week.  No, he was not jogging down the street across town, his mind was traveling back in time.  Doesn’t everyone’s?  For all those old enough, remember the sandlot and pick-up football games when you were kids?  You’d come home with grass stains on your pants, maybe a ripped t-shirt, and some scratches or a bloody lip.  Your mom would tell you to put your pants in the laundry room, throw the t-shirt out, and then doctor your scratches or give you a popsicle for the bloody lip.  Mom would always predict that you’d get hurt worse if you weren’t careful.  Then you’d go out the next day and do it all over again.  Oh, those were the days my friends, those were the days.

Speaking of predictions, the Guru of Guess was a fantastic 24-2 last week including correctly forecasting the North Allegheny defeat of P.C.C., the Warwick win over Manheim Central, and the Penns Valley triumph over Bald Eagle Area.  He now stands at 66-12 (.846) for the young season.  Protime tries to hit the big games, some obscure games and teams, and some of the top teams from every district if he can.  Here are the prognostications for the upcoming week.

Clarion 3-0 @ Brookville 3-0 – This will be Protime’s GOTW.  Winner may very well be in the catbird seat come playoff time.  The Bobcats of Clarion are led by RB Austin Newcomb, QB Cal German, and WR Ethan Burford.  Newcomb has grounded out 472 yards and 10 TDs, German has thrown for 587 yards and 7 scores, and Burford has 405 receiving yards and 5 TD snabs.  For the Blue Raiders, Jack Krug has thrown for 725 yards and 8 TDs, while running for 333 and 4 more TDs.  WR Robert Keth is the go to guy with 21 receptions.  On defense Kyle MacBeth has four picks.  Protime has Clarion winning 35-28.

Bethlehem Liberty 3-0 @ Easton 3-0 – Liberty has one of the high school best bands Protime has ever seen.  As far as football goes, the Hurricanes are led by QB Dallas Holmes who threw and ran for a touchdown last week against Bethlehem Catholic.  Easton’s new running back, Nahjee Adams, is a nightmare for opponents.  He has racked up 674 yards and 8 touchdowns rushing.  QB Cole Transue has tossed the pigskin for 480 yards and 6 scores.  A coin flip says Easton’s Bulldogs defeat the Hurricanes 41-34.

Central Valley 3-0 @ North Catholic 2-0 – Central Valley is thinking this could be their year.  The Warriors are led by QB Ameer Dudley (387 yards passing – 4 TDs) and RB Jaylen Guy (323 yards – 3 TDs).  Defensively, LB Reed Fitzsimmons is the leading tackler.  North Catholic counters with QB Zack Rocco’s 399 yards and 4 touchdowns passing.  His top receiver to date is Nick Maher.  The Warriors topple the Trojans in a well-played contest, 22-21.

Central Bucks South 2-1 @ Central Bucks West 3-0 – South is led by WR Sean Smith who has grabbed 21 passes for 488 yards and 7 TDs.  Carter Hallgren filled in for injured QB Josh Consoletti last week had had 362 yards and 3 TD tosses.  Not bad for the back-up.  LB Cole Cenci has 26 tackles already for the Titans.  West is led by RB Jack Fallon and his 368 yards rushing.  He also has 5 touchdowns, as does back mate Nick Tumolo.  Protime has a feeling that the Bucks are going to win this battle, 21-17.

Cambridge Springs 2-1 @ Maplewood 3-0 – Up in District 10, Maplewood may be the best single A team, only time will tell.  The Tigers are led by QB JD McFadden who has 399 yards passing and 241 yards rushing.  RB Kaleb Donor has prowled for 352 yards and 7 touchdowns.  The Cambridge Springs Blue Devils are led by QB Trenton Wheeler and RB Jared Taylor.  Maplewood goes to 4-0 with a 28-12 victory.

Trinity 3-0 @ Steelton-Highspire 3-0 – QB Danny Scott shows the way for the Shamrocks with his 561 yards passing and 6 TDs.  RB Daniel Kosinski has traversed for 309 yards to lead the ground game.  The Shamrock defense already has 12 sacks on the season.  Steelton’s Steamrollers have some athletes.  WR Mekhi Flowers has almost 300 yards receiving plus he is used to rush the ball and return kicks.  He’s scored 5 touchdowns thus far.  RB Odell Greene has 357 yards rushing and 3 scores.  QB Nyles Jones has over 400 yards passing and over 300 yards rushing.  Protime’s crystal ball says Trinity in a nail-biter, 27-26.

Portage 3-0 @ Berlin Brothersvalley 3-0 – The Mustangs looked pretty good last week.  Connor Price has it going at QB for Portage.  He has 6 TD passes and 2 more rushing.  Dylan Tubbs has booted 18 of 19 extra point tries.  The Mountaineers’ coaching staff have elected to go with the two QB system.  Will Spochart and Abe Countryman have combined for 416 yards and 7 touchdowns.  Spochart is also a running threat, leading the team in that area.  Cole Blubaugh has 5 scores to lead Berlin.  K Brady Glessner has one-upped Tubbs.  He is a perfect 19 for 19 in PATs.  The gut says Portage 24-21.

Valley View 3-0 @ Scranton Prep 2-1 – The Cougars have a good one in QB Janaasah Boone.  He has 328 yards and 8 touchdowns rushing.  Passing, he has 303 yards.  RB Zach Monchak has 240 yards and 4 scores.  Prep leans on QB Paddy Grady.  He has tossed for 428 yards with Carter Odell being his favorite target.  Look for Valley View to defeat the Cavaliers 31-20.

California 3-0 @ Laurel 2-0 – Should be a good one down Pittsburgh way.  Cal is led by Cochise Ryan (love that name).  Cochise has 414 yards throwing and 232 running.  His touchdown total is 12, five via the air and seven over land.  Lucas Qualk is the top tailback with 4 TDs and top receiver too with 7 snags.  Laurel has two running back with over 200 yards each.  They are Daniel Blank and Dom Wade.  Protime is taking the Laurel Spartans over the Cal Trojans, 34-30.

The Others:

Downingtown West 31 Perkiomen Valley 14 – The Whippets are a legitimate contender for the D-1 crown this year as the Vikings find out.

Pittsburgh Central Catholic 24 Hempfield 6 – These Vikings rebound from a tough loss last week.  The Spartans keep it close though.

Southern Columbia 45 Shamokin 14 – Southern breaks the state regular season consecutive wins streak of 74.  Tigers roar at the expense of the Indians.

Karns City 22 Moniteau 17 – In a rivalry game, the Gremlins edge the Warriors.

Danville 28 Mifflinburg 20 – The Ironmen saw their coach resign this week and beat the Wildcats in honoring him and moving forward under the new guy.

Tussey Mountain 25 Northern Bedford 20 – Close game.  Protime has a sneaky suspicion the Titans are for real.  The Panthers aren’t bad either.

Wilson West Lawn 28 Manheim Central 17 – Wilson is definitely a 6A contender in District 3.  The Barons don’t usually lose two in a row, but the Bulldogs are just doggedly tough.

Ligonier Valley 38 Saltsburg 20 – The Rams over the Trojans after an off week.

Warwick 31 Hempfield 21 – The Warriors have no let down after an emotional win over Manheim Central last week.  Their first defeat of Manheim since 1984.  The Black Knights are no pushovers though.

Avonworth 26 New Brighton 18 – QB Park Penrod (515 yards passing with 9 TDs) and his fellow Antelopes will bring down the Lions.  (You don’t see that too often.)

Pope John Paul II 42 Schuylkill Valley 22 – The Golden Panthers weather the attack of fellow Panthers.

Penn-Trafford 31 McKeesport 27 – The Warriors get a scare from the Tigers triple threat offense.

Wyomissing 28 Blue Mountain 14 – Protime will not go against the Spartans three weeks in a row.  Sorry Eagles!

Marion Center 20 Homer Center 14 – The Stingers go to 4-0 at the expense of the H.C. Wildcats.

Simon Gratz 15 Academy Park 12 – Coin flip here as the Bulldogs take care of the Knights.

Sharpsville 12 Greenville 6 – A low scoring affair finds the Blue Devils barely beating the Trojans.

Neumann-Goretti 25 Bonner-Prendie 15 – The Saints will march to a victory over the Friars.
