Kennedy Catholic’s first home varsity game in seven years did not disappoint. A defensive slugfest that saw only two first downs in all of the first quarter ended with a 10-0 West Middlesex victory.

Just moments before the first half ended, West Middlesex got within the Kennedy Catholic five yard line. The Eagles’ junior linebacker and safety Matt Jordan was able to stop West Middlesex on fourth down to end the half scoreless. About midway through the third, West Middlesex used their defense to open up scoring. After backing Kennedy Catholic within their own five, junior linebacker Ian Smith got a tackle in the endzone to get a safety. The ensuing Big Red’s drive would also end in a West Middlesex score. Sophomore receiver Colby Johnson ran into the endzone from eleven yards out to get the score to 8-0. The point after attempt resulted in a two-point conversion when senior receiver and holder Alex Rea picked up the ball after a low snap and threw a high arching pass to junior receiver Eric Nehlan to extend West Middlesex’s lead to 10-0.

That score would end up being the last one of the game. Kennedy Catholic, now 0-2 and plays at Reynolds next week on Friday night. West Middlesex, now 1-1, returns home against Mercer next Friday.
