WILSON- When you’re the underdog in a key football contest, you tell your team to make it a game going into the fourth quarter and anything can happen. Saturday afternoon at Warrior Stadium, Wilson did just that and a key turnover propelled the Warriors to squeak out a 29-26 win over Saucon Valley on a 29 yard field goal by Lorenzo Sigue with just eight seconds left in the game to secure the victory. The first time in seven years for the home team over the Panthers.

Sigue’s kick was set-up on a fumble recovery at the Panthers 30 by Josh Mesach after his teammate Alec Snyder forced the ball out of the hands of a Saucon player with a minute left in regulation.

Wilson got on the scoreboard first as quarterback Cayden Stern threw one of his three touchdown passes on the afternoon to Zack Gillen covering 24 yards with 6:05 left in the first quarter. Stern completed 17 of 30 passes for 302 yards in the contest.

Panthers running back Braydyn Lugardo tied the game at six with six yard run at the 4:50 mark. Lugardo’s score was setup by 65 yard run by Damien Garcia. Lugardo finished with 142 yards in addition to his three scores

Lugardo also had a five yard run to give the visitors the lead at 12-6 late in the quarter. The two-point conversion failed.

Saucon Valley had a 20-13 lead at intermission as Lugardo found the end zone again from 48 yards out. That score came after a Stern run from six yards for Wilson.

On the second half kickoff Damien Simpson of Wilson returned it for a score, but a block in the back negated the score.

Stern connected with Dylan Goldsworth, who had eight receptions for 111 yards, was on receiving end of a 40 yard bomb down the home sidelines to tie the score at 20 with 7:10 left in the third quarter.

Quarterback Dante Mahaffey of Saucon Valley put his team up 26-20 on a 1 yard sneak with 5:53 left in the contest, however a bad snap on PAT kept the lead at 6.

Stern hooked up with Gillen again from 14 yards to knot the game at 26 as the PAT was blocked by Mahaffey of the Panthers with just 2:24 left on the clock. Gillen caught four passes for 76 yards in the contest.

Wilson(4-3) winners of three-in-a-row will be on the road at Palmerton (2-5) Friday night. Palmerton defeated Catasauqua 56-0 Friday night.
