WPIAL playoffs are back and better than ever! The 1A group of schools has shown that even the smaller schools can play some solid football. This time in the Playoffs is the #1 Washington Prexies vs. the #16 Frazier Commodores.

Starting with the Prexies, their year has been on an upward slope. 9-1 is their overall record, with a 6-0 record in the WPIAL A Black Hills conference. This has been a pretty big turnaround when taking the fact that they were 5-6 overall in 2024 into consideration. The only game they lost was an 8-7 loss to Clairton. The Prexies have been perfect on the road with a 5-0 record in away games. Much of this success can be traced to a couple of key players.

Ameer Nelson, a junior wide receiver, is averaging 48.5 receiving yards per game, is second in rushing yards, and is first in receiving touchdowns with 6 this year. The quarterback, Travon Moye, a junior, has 1027 passing yards on 92 attempts this season. It seems like Moye is finding a receiver on every pass he throws. As for the defense, junior Blaise Naraskivitch leads the defense with 88 total tackles this year, 46 of them being solo tackles.

Flipping things over to the Commodores, their year has been a bit shaky, but they find themselves in the playoffs in the 16th seed. The Commodores have a 5-5 overall record and 3-4 in the WPIAL A Tri-County South Football conference. Their offensive leaders come from the hands of Brant Alekson who has 9 touchdowns and 538 receiving yards. The rushing yards come from Brady Secrest. Secrest has 1928 rushing yards this season with 23 touchdowns. The defense has allowed 251 points to score and on average, 25.1 points per game. With an explosive Prexies’ offense, the Commodores have to be ready to stop them when it matters.

Friday is a few days away and both these teams are trying to make their way up the WPIAL playoff ladder. Stay tuned for an update on the game results!
