2026 District Nine Review – 3rd Week Action

Here are the top performers of the week along with a couple other tidbits:

Quarterbacks:

• Carter Hindman, Central Clarion, pitched the pigskin for 306 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
• Dom Corcetti, Keystone, ran for 4 touchdowns and passed for another.
• Owen Steger, Ridgway, went 10 for 11 passing, threw for over 200 yards and 3 touchdowns.  He also ran for a TD.
• Dylan Foust, Clearfield, tossed 3 touchdown passes and accounted for 276 yards.
• Ryan Schenfield, Otto-Eldred, had over 100 yards passing and over 100 yards rushing.  He threw for two TDs.
• Easton Magognotti, Redbank Valley, was responsible for 3 scores, 2 running the football and the other passing.

Running Backs:

• Kamden Fragale, Cameron County, rushed for 225 yards and made it to the end zone 4 times.
• Kellen Villeux, Port Allegany, scored 3 touchdowns rushing. 
• Eli Nellis, Keystone, ran for 141 yards unofficially and scored TDs, 1 each rushing and receiving.
• Jace Zimmerman, Ridgway, ran for 2 scores and accounted for 152 total yards carrying the ball.
• Christian Driskell, Coudersport, rushed for 161 yards.
• Maddox Dickerson, Smethport, ran for 125 yards and had 3 touchdowns (1 was on special teams – see below).
• Jude Kisko, Smethport, scooted for 148 yards and a couple of scores.
• London Duncan, DuBois, galloped for 140 yards and two TDs.

Wide Receivers:

• Curtis Putt, Clearfield, had 8 pass receptions and 2 TDs.
• Wyatt Blendinger, Otto-Eldred, caught 7 passes and had 2 TDs.

Defense and Special Teams:

• Cameron County’s defense forced 9 turnovers in their game with Kane.  Wonder if that’s a record for the school and/or D-9?
• Xavier Schwentner, Brockway, had a touchdown run of 3 yards with a recovered fumble.
• Maddox Dickerson, Smethport, ran a kickoff back 80 yards for a TD.
• Conner Taylor, Coudersport, took down 10 ball carriers.
• Corbin Post & Kamden Fragale, Cameron County, intercepted two passes each.

Other Tidbits:

• After only 3 weeks of football, only Karns City and Port Allegany remain undefeated.
• Karns City ran for 394 total yards against Punxsy.  RBs Bryce Galan and Tyson Frazier each ran for two scores.  QB Cole Johnston also ran for two touchdowns.  Those three accounted for 338 of the 394 yards rushing.
• Port Allegany, research shows, has now won 25 straight regular season games.

Game(s) of the Week:

• Although we will list a couple more, there really was only one game of the week.  The players and fans alike will remember this contest for a long, long time.  It was, as my friend Rich says, epic.  The Keystone Panthers knocked the Ridgway Elkers from the ranks of the unbeaten by outscoring them 41-38 in overtime.  Neither team led by more than a touchdown.  If the offenses would have clicked in the first half like they did in the second, both teams would have scored 50 points or more.  Ridgway led 7-0 after one quarter and Keystone led 14-7 at the half.  Ridgway scored the first four times they had the ball in the second half and Keystone answered by scoring the first three times they had the football.  With 5:52 left the game was tied at 35.  On Keystone’s fourth possession, they turned the ball over on downs at midfield.  Ridgway then drove into field goal range to win the game, but the kick was partially blocked it looked like, sending the game into overtime.  Ridgway got the ball first and kicked a field goal, but Keystone responded with a touchdown to secure the win. 
• For the second consecutive week, Otto-Eldred played in a nail-biter.  This week the Terrors stopped Coudersport 24-18 with a fourth quarter comeback.  Coudy led 12-0 at halftime and 18-16 late in the game when Otto-Eldred threw a touchdown pass with under a minute to play.
• DuBois defeated Central Clarion for the first time ever 23-19 by playing a strong defensive second half of football.  The visiting Bobcats were on top at the intermission 19-16, but the Beaver defense did not allow a point in the second half.  The DuBois winning score came early in the fourth stanza and the defense shut down Clarion, twice forcing turnovers on downs.

Upset of the Week:

• There might not have been any again this week, but Cameron County beating Kane 43-16 was an unexpected score.  Then we find out that Kane had 9, yes 9 turnovers and maybe this game was a bit of a surprise.
