Game(s) of the Week:

  • Overtime decided the contest between Otto-Eldred and Union/AC Valley last Friday night.  The O-E Terrors took off early and led 14-0, but UACV came back in the second quarter and trailed 14-7 by halftime.  Union/AC Valley kept the pressure on in the third quarter and scored again.  By the end of three quarters the Falcon/Knights were only down by one point 14-13.  That momentum carried into the 4th quarter and Union/AC Valley took their first lead of the game 21-14.  Otto-Eldred then found their offensive footing and bounced back scoring twice to put themselves in the lead 28-21 with under three minutes to go.  UACV took all of two minutes to flow down the field and tie the game at 28.  The Union/AC Valley FalconKnights then won in overtime 34-28.
  • The Punxsutawney Chucks and the Central Clarion Wildcats were involved in a real barn burner as they say.  The game had many momentum swings and the outcome was in doubt until the clock hit 0:00.  Central Clarion jumped out to a 7-0 first quarter lead and remained on top 14-6 by the end of the first.  Punxsy came charging back in the second stanza of play, scoring 19 straight points to surge ahead 25-14.  But Clarion capitalized on a Punxsy gamble on 4th down and scored with only seconds left in the half to cut the Chuck lead to 25-22.  Central Clarion retook the lead in the third quarter 28-25.  Punxsy came up big in the final frame by scoring with only 51 seconds on the clock to jump in front 32-28.  The Wildcats got a great kickoff return and a 20-yard pass gave them possession inside the Chuck 30.  But on the last play Punxsy intercepted the ball to hold on for the big victory.
  • Smethport came from behind to down Kane 18-14 in another great game.  The Hubbers were on top 6-0 after the first period, but Kane answered in the second and took the lead 8-6 by halftime.  The Kane Wolves increased their lead to 14-6 by the end of the third quarter and the way their defense was playing that lead looked safe.  But, Smethport came to life scoring twice in the 4th quarter, the second touchdown and winning score came with less than 90 seconds remaining in the game.
  • Moniteau was involved in another defensive struggle.  This week’s tussle was with Brookville.  Moniteau’s defense played very well and indirectly won the game for the Warriors by holding the Brookville Blue Raiders on downs twice inside the Moniteau 5-yard line.  Brookville grabbed the 2-0 lead on a first quarter safety and their defense almost made that stand up.  The Blue Raider ‘D’ held Moniteau to 106 total yards for the game,  The score remained 2-0 into the last quarter.  That is when Moniteau put together their only real drive of the night and marched 83 yards (again they only had 106 for the game) to score the only TD of the night with 6 minutes left.  The Warrior defense prevented Brookville from mounting a real threat and Moniteau came away with the unusual 6-2 win.
