A Fresh Start for Burgettstown Results in a Dominating Victory over Jefferson-Morgan

A perfect night for football, a perfect way for the Burgettstown Blue Devils to start the new season. The Blue Devils looked polished and in mid-season form in this first game of the season. Scoring touchdowns multiple ways via short runs, long runs, a toe tapping in the end zone reception, and even a kick return that all culminated in an easy 42-7 victory over the Rockets.
Jefferson-Morgan took the opening kickoff and drove the ball down the field, but the drive ultimately stalled at the 31 yard line. Burgettstown quarterback Senior Blake Neal took control of the game and running back junior Brady Rightweiser was dominate on the ground throughout this entire game.

Rightweiser flexed his muscles on a pair of touchdown runs from 1 yard and 5 yards, then showed his speed by racing past the Rocket defense for a 60 yard run. The Rockets had no answer for him this game. Additionally, Neal was solid under center. He controlled the game and mixed in several key pass completions to keep the Rocket defense on the field for the vast majority of the first half. Neal connected with junior Dominick Stevenson for an 11 yard reception on a perfect pass to the back corner of the end zone and the smooth toe tap for the touchdown. Neal later connected with senior Caleb Matalik, as he found a soft spot in the defense, for a 10 yard touchdown. Not to be over-shadowed, the Blue Devils special teams wanted to leave their mark on this game as well, Junior Michael Carrozza took the second half kickoff, untouched, for 80 yards.

The Blue Devils were never really threatened by the Rockets during this game. The closest the game got was to 21-7 when Senior Triton Farabee found junior EJ Lingenfield for a 35 yard pitch and catch to crack the scoreboard. The Blue Devils quickly responded to take a 28-7 lead into the half. The Carrozza touchdown return essentially put this game on ice.
Burgettstown will look to feed off this positive momentum and take their perfect record on the road to face rival Avella (1-0). Jefferson-Morgan will try to right the ship as they host Bentworth (0-1).
