Monessen Defense Dominates in Shutout of Carmichaels
Carmichaels, PA – An historic night for the Monessen Greyhounds (2-0). They joined an exclusive list of high school football programs in the WPIAL and PIAA, 700 football program wins. Not only did they join a list that includes only nine WPIAL programs and 24 programs across Pennsylvania, but they did it in a dominate fashion. A memorable 38-0 victory over former Tri-County South rival, the Carmichaels Mikes (1-1).
The Mikes, after racking up over 300 rushing yards last week, could not find any room to run. The Greyhounds were ready for the rushing attack, limiting the Mikes to less than 50 yards on the ground in this game. Big plays and miscues by the Mikes allowed the Greyhounds to storm out to a 22-0 lead in the first quarter. A snap that sailed over the head of the Mikes punter, Junior KC Shook, set the Greyhounds up for their first touchdown by freshman Da’mari Miles, the first of two touchdowns by Miles. The Greyhounds not only clogged up the running lanes in this game, but also put relentless pressure on the Mikes sophomore quarterback Peyton Morecraft. Later in the quarter, Morecraft was sacked by junior Ke’zjere Butler and a fumble was picked up by junior lineman Roodly Destyl for a touchdown. Additionally, Monessen lineman freshman Derrick Dixon had an interception on a screen pass and returned the ball inside the Mikes 10 yard line.

Senior Kayden Kolbeck added another big play for the Hounds, found a seam and out ran the Mikes defense to the end zone for a 54 yard run. To complete the scoring and induce a running clock, Monessen senior quarterback Kaier Payne found junior wide receiver Daniel Towler for a short touchdown.

The Greyhounds will go back to Monessen and look to remain perfect on the season next week as they host the Frazier Commodores (1-1). The Carmichaels Mikes will travel to Greensburg and try to get back on the winning track against the Greensburg Central Catholic Centurions (1-1).
