Cambria Heights senior Brayden DeArmitt scored three touchdowns, and the defense held Purchase Line to 13 points, defeating them 41-13 on Friday night to remain undefeated.
In the first quarter, following a defensive stand inside their own 30, senior tight end Bryce Lewis scored a one-yard touchdown on third and goal for Cambria Heights to open the scoring.
Purchase Line runningback Maddox Frantz responded immediately, running the kick return from inside the 10 to the end zone to tie the game at 7.
Heights struck back with a kick return touchdown of their own, courtesy of Brayden DeArmitt, who was coming off of a two-touchdown performance against River Valley, to give his team a 13-7 lead after a missed PAT.
The Highlanders’ defense would come up clutch with an interception at midfield, which allowed Brayden DeArmitt to score his second touchdown of the half to make it 19-7, though kicker Ty McConnell was forced to throw away the two-point attempt.
Near the end of the quarter, a three-and-out punt by Cambria Heights allowed Purchase Line senior Matt Johnston to situate his team inside the 25 with a long return. Nolan Engle then threw a 10-yard pass to Frantz for his second touchdown, making the score 19-13 at halftime.
Going into the second half, the Highlanders were looking to pull away, and they did just that as fullback Colton Strong capped off a 68-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. From that point on, even with a fake punt by kicker Matt Johnston, the Purchase Line offense would be stifled by the Cambria Heights defense, which has been one of the best in the Heritage Conference as of late.
Cambria Heights would proceed to drain the clock on their final offensive drives, and freshman fullback Angelo Ranck ran in yet another rushing touchdown to make it 41-13, which would be the final score.
Purchase Line took a second loss following their 34-22 victory over Northern Cambria last week, and Cambria Heights won a third game to maintain their perfect record. Next week, Purchase Line will return home to host West Shamokin, and Cambria Heights will travel to Marion Center to take on the Stingers.
