Milton Hershey – Last night the Spring Grove Rockets took a visit to Chocolatetown to take on the Milton Hershey Spartans. The game ended in dominating win by the Rockets defense, holding the Spartans scoreless after their first drive. Rocket’s sophomore Quarterback Davon Melbourne led the offensive charge, accounting for 3 rushing touchdowns scored. Spring Grove leaves Milton Hershey victorious, with a 23-6 victory in their 3rd game of the season.
Spring Grove kicked off the scoring last night with a quarterback rushing touchdown by Davon Melbourne. An extra point by kicker Ryan Brooks would set the team up 7-0 against Milton Hershey with 7:12 left in the 1st quarter.

The next drive for the Rockets ended in an interception by Spartan’s cornerback Jayden Mason. The Spartans will go on to capitalize off the short field, scoring a rushing touchdown by running back Gomes Pedro. A missed extra point puts the score at 7-6 with 1:23 left in the first quarter.

The 2nd quarter was much quieter compared to the 1st, with both teams driving back and forth down the field, neither being able to score. With less than a minute to go in the 1st half the Rocket’s found an opportunity. Driving down the field they found themselves around the 40 yard-line with 14 seconds left on the clock. Quarterback Davon Melbourne found a hole in the coverage, taking off for a scramble. The sophomore quarterback ran it all the way to the end-zone, giving his team a more confident 14-6 lead going into halftime.

The 3rd quarter saw Spring Grove holding Milton Hershey scoreless, while also increasing their lead with a 22 yard field goal off the leg of Ryan Brooks. The score was now 17-6 with 2:56 left in the 3rd.

Quarterback Davon Melbourne rushed for his 3rd touchdown of the night early in the 4th quarter. Setting his team up 23-6 with 10:49 left in the game. Melbourne would finish the night with 10 rushes for 137 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Defensively Spring Grove was led by linebackers Ben Bubb and Oliver Smith. Bubb had 10 tackles on the night with 3 assists and a fumble recovery. Smith accounted for the forced fumble, knocking the ball out of Milton Hershey’s possession with 6:15 left in the 4th. Smith finished with 8 tackles and 4 assists for the night.

“I tried to lean on my teammates to help me,” Spring Grove quarterback Davon Melbourne said in an interview. Melbourne stressed the importance of having a strong team to help support eachother in games.

The Rockets finished the game with a 23-6 victory against the Spartans, and will move to (3-0) on the season.
