Kiski School Thumps St. James School to Improve to 2-0

The Kiski School Cougars (1-0) visited the Saint James School Saints (1-0) in Hagerstown, MD Saturday afternoon. Saint James narrowly defeated Kiski 10-7 last season. Each team entered the contest having won their first match of the season.

The Cougars pitched a shutout as Kiski defeated the Saints 43-0. The Cougar defense was again dominsnt on the afternoon. Senior DE Owen Urschler (Wexford, PA) was a menace the entire game, racking up multiple TFLs and a sack. He was joined in the stellar defensive line play by Edge DayomiAdejumo (London, UK), DT Jason Gross (Edison, NJ), DT Ryan Chambers Jr (Vandergrift, PA) and edge Dalaun Harris (McKees Rocks, PA).  Strong LB play was also provided by Max Woerner (Riegelsville, PA), Levi Porter (Indiana, PA) and Ryan Crete (Ottawa, Canada).  CB Curty Wade (Rostraver, PA) registered his 3rd Interception of the season as well. Kiski has now outscored their first two opponents 87-7 on the season.

First Half

Kiski kicked off the ball, and immediately forced St. James into a punt, taking over at their own 19 yard line. After several long runs by RB Patrick Maignan (Wayne, NJ), QB Joe Felitsky (Cranberry Twp, PA) connected with WR Omari Shirriel(Pittsburgh, PA) for a 53-yard TD strike to put Kiski up 6-0. Kiski would force a turnover on downs from St James, and then would drive to the St James 12 yard line before converting a William LeComte FG to put Kiski up 9-0.

Kiski’s defense, led by Urschler, would again stifle St James. The teams would trade possessions, with St. James driving into Kiski territory early in the second quarter before Wade’s interception ended the drive. Levi Porter would return a punt to the St. James 34 and 4 plays later would find the end zone on a 1-yard run to extend Kiski’s lead to 15-0. Jason Gross would force a fumble recovered by Porter on St James next possession setting Kiski up on the St. James 15 yard line. QB Joe Felitsky hit WR DeWayne Johnson Jr (Pittsburgh, PA) for a 10-yard TD pass, and LeComte converted the PAT to put Kiski up 22-0 heading into halftime.

Second Half

The Cougars would start the second half at their own 15 yard line, and would drive to the St. James 1 yard line on the strength of 5 strong runs by Senior RBs Mason Jones and Patrick Maignan. Maigan would punch in another TD and LeComtewould add the PAT to put Kiski up 29-0.

Kiski’s defense would again stifle St James on a TFL by Adejumo. On the ensuing drive, Felitsky would move the Cougar offense with his legs and his arm to the St James 11 yardline, where he would cap the drive with an 11-yard TD pass to junior WR Greyson Daugherty (Ligonier, PA). LeComte again converted the PAT to put Kiski ahead 36-0.

The Cougars would stifle St. James the rest of the way, andwould add another Maignan TD run and LeComte PAT to close out the scoring at 43-0.

The Cougars totaled 400 yards of offense on a short field all afternoon. The ground game racked up 271 yards, with Jones (112 yards) and Maignan (100 yards, 2 TDs) leading the way. QB Joe Felitsky was an efficient 6 for 8 passing for 125 yards and 3 TD passes.

Kiski is now 2-0 and will return to Saltsburg next Saturday for its first home contest of the season against visiting rival the William Penn Charter School of Philadelphia. Saint James (1-1) will host St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes next Saturday in Hagerstown.
