University High (WV) Soars Past Wheeling Park (WV)

Morgantown, WV – In a game between top 10 teams in West Virginia, the University High Hawks (4-0) used a combination of their high scoring offense, 58 points per game, and a dominate performance from their defense to jump all over the Wheeling Park Patriots (2-2) early in the game and continue the onslaught for four quarters en route to a 66-0 victory. The result in this game was the anomaly in this series between the two schools. Wheeling Park won last years meeting in a 42-35 shootout.

The Hawks came into the game ranked 6th while the Patriots were ranked 9th in WV AAAA. The Hawks made a statement with this performance and if 58 points per game didn’t open enough eyes, this dominate victory definitely will. The offensive line, led by Virginia Tech commit tackle Luck Braham, gave senior QB Harrison Helbig plenty of time to throw, opened up gaping holes for the Hawks junior running back Brody Kehler, and allowed senior kicker Brady Goodenow to nail a 44 yard field goal. Not the mention the impressive defensive effort to pitch the shut out.
The first have ended with University rolling to a 38-0 lead. As the second half began University scored on four of their first five plays, to include a pair of 70 yard touchdown passes by Helbig, the first to senior wide receiver Kaleil Lewis, who out ran the Patriots defense down the sideline, the second on a perfectly thrown ball between the hash marks to find senior wide receiver Hayden George. The running backs also contributed as Kehler found pay dirt on a 30 yard run and senior Jaedyn Katchur broke some tackes and went 62 yards around the end.

For the game, Helbig threw five touchdown passes (5, 22, 13, 70, 70), Kehler touchdown runs (2, 1, 30), George touchdown receptions (22, 70), senior Evan Toler reception (5), Lewis two receptions (13,70) and the Katchur score (62).
The University High Hawks look to move up the AAAA rankings as they travel to Fairmont Senior (1-3). The Wheeling Park Patriots look to rebound from this game and travel to Ohio for a matchup with St. Clairsville (0-5).
