Kiski School Dominates William Penn Charter in 68-6 Blowout

Saltsburg – The Kiski School scored 49 first-half points and routed William Penn Charter 68-6 Saturday afternoon, improving to 3-0 on the season.

The Cougars dominated their first two games, winning 44-0 over The Hill School and 43-0 over St. James.

Their home opener was even more impressive, and they scored and found the end zone in all three aspects, taking to the Quakers in every way possible.

“The players did a great job jumping out on top right from the start,” said Kiski School head coach Aaron Smetanka. “They did a great job keeping that momentum going for the rest of the game instead of just in spurts here and there. Today we executed in all three phases and did a great job getting pressure and staying disciplined. That’s something we’ve been talking about the last few weeks. They came out, played for each other, and cared for each other out there.”

Patrick Maignan started things off with a 32-yard interception return for a touchdown just 1:41 into the game—the first of four interceptions by the secondary.

The Cougars then took advantage of two short fields, extending their lead to 20-0 after a quarter on Joey Felitsky’s 33-yard touchdown pass to Omari Shirriel and Maignan’s 14-yard scoring run capping drives of 40 and 35 yards.

The second quarter was the Levi Porter show. The Appalachian State recruit capped a 4-play, 54-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown run. He later returned a free kick 76 yards for a touchdown following a safety and added a 50-yard punt return for a score with 28 seconds left in the half. He added an interception.

“We jumped on them early, and never took our foot off the gas,” Porter said. “We kept going until the end of the game. We definitely came together more today than we have in our first two games. We played clean in all three phases; we did miss a field goal and some extra points, so we need to clean that up. I have faith everyone will pick it up again next week. This game showed who we are as a team.”

Kiski School’s safety came when Jason Gross tackled Christian Downs in the end zone. The 49-0 score held at halftime.

Early in the third quarter, DeWayne Johnson Jr. caught a 70-yard pass from Joey Felitsky that led to Felitsky’s 3-yard touchdown run a play later, pushing the lead to 56-0.

Felitsky completed 5 of 6 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown while adding seven yards on the ground. Johnson Jr. had two receptions for 85 yards.

In the fourth quarter, Curty Wade capped a 7-play, 75-yard drive with a 34-yard touchdown run, while Dayomi Adejumo returned a fumble 4 yards for a score in the closing minutes.

“No matter who was going in the game, the guys were making plays,” Smetanka said. “We got a lot of reps with our younger guys to show what they can do, and of course it all comes down to the line. Nothing can be done in the passing or the run game if it’s not for them doing their job up front.”

The Quakers scored in the third quarter on a 25-yard pass from Royal Spurlark to Kane Cullen. Cullen led William Penn Charter with 26 yards rushing and one reception for 25 yards and a touchdown.

The Kiski School will shoot for 4-0 next Saturday at 1 pm when they travel to the Academy of the New Church.
