Hempfield Shuts Down Spring Grove
Spring Grove – Last night the Hempfield Black Knights traveled to Papermakers Stadium to take on the Spring Grove Rockets in the 5th game of the regular season. The game ended in a dominating win for the Black Knights, who were led by quarterback Landon Charles and running back Ramel Lyles. Hempfield leaves Spring Grove victorious with the 42-21 win, ultimately becoming their 3rd victory of the season.
Scoring was first kicked off by the Rockets, where quarterback Davon Melbourne rushed in for a touchdown, bringing the score to 7-0 with 5:42 left in the 1st quarter.

It wasn’t long before the Black Knights added their first points to the scoreboard, when quarterback Landon Charles found wide receiver Donte Lewis in stride. A successful PAT tied the score 7-7 with 1:29 left in the 1st quarter.

A accidental fumble on the kickoff return by Spring Grove gave Hempfield the ball in a short field scenario. Being quick on his feet, Landon Charles rushed in for another Black Knights touchdown, taking the lead 14-7 with 11:44 remaining in the 2nd quarter.

After a stalled possession from the Rockets, the Black Knights added to their lead with a short touchdown pass to wide receiver Lucas Weisglass. The score was now 21-7 with 7:15 left in the 2nd. Hempfield’s quarterback Landon Charles would go on to finish the game with 2 passing and 1 rushing touchdown for the Black Knights.

Trying to capitalize on the remaining time left in the 2nd quarter, Spring Grove’s Davon Melbourne was able to find wide receiver Cam Hoff for the team’s first passing touchdown of the season. With :02 seconds left in the quarter, Spring Grove trailed 21-14 to Hempfield.

The second half of the matchup saw the success of Hempfield running back Ramel Lyles. Lyles 1st touchdown of the night was scored through a rushing touchdown by the Black Knights offense. Their lead increased to 28-14 with 10:56 left in the 3rd quarter – with no signs of stopping.

The next Hempfield drive was held off with a blocked field goal, however a failed offensive drive by the Rockets quickly gave the ball back to the Black Knights in scoring position. Ramel Lyles found his way into the end zone for his 2nd rushing touchdown of the night, further putting his team ahead of the Rockets 35-14 going into the 4th quarter.

Spring Grove scored their first points of the second half through a passing touchdown to wide receiver Evan Allison. The Rocket’s quarterback, Davon Melbourne, finished the game with 2 passing and 1 rushing touchdowns. Spring Grove now trailed 35-21 with 9:41 remaining in the game.

Hempfield found the end zone one more time in the game, with Ramel Lyles rushing for his 3rd touchdown of the night. The touchdown helped account for the Black Knights total 42 points of the night against the Rockets.
