The offensive woes continued Friday night for the Wellsboro Varsity Football team as the Hornets fell 44-0 on the road against Athens.
The Hornets ran 39 offensive plays and produced just 58 yards of total offense. It’s the second time in three weeks that Wellsboro has been held under 100 yards of offense in a game (65 against Canton).
Athens scored on four of their five first-half drives to take a 28-0 lead at the half, then scored on all three possessions of the second half.
Connor Davidson completed 11-of-17 passes for the Wildcats for 148 yards and two touchdowns and ran 13 times for 75 yards and 3 scores. Brendan Cooke also added 58 yards on the ground and Kade Rowe caught 6 passes for 112 yards and a score.
Sophomore Derrick Blasz went 7-for-15 through the air for 41 yards. Senior Ethan Keane (12) and sophomore Christian Main (11) caught two passes each on the night. Junior Reed Richardson carried the ball 5 times for 28 yards and senior Max Mascho ran 9 times for 11 yards.
Junior Kody Enck made 6 tackles and Richardson added 5 stops.
Wellsboro falls to 1-5 (1-3 NTL Large School Division) on the season. Next week they are back on the road for a Thursday night game at Towanda.
