‘Terrible performance’; Hampton obliterated by Kiski Area 45-10.

ALLISON PARK, PA– “What I did like? That it’s over.”

That’s what Hampton head coach Steve Sciullo said after Hampton’s depleting 45-10 loss to Kiski Area on Friday night.

“That was a terrible performance by us,” he added. “Hats off to the kids over at Kiski. They played very well tonight.”

I’ll let you watch the last 30 seconds or so for yourself.

I’m sure everyone in Hampton’s locker room feels the same. Not a single thing went right for them this cold –now seemingly even colder—mid-October night.

Kiski set the tone early with two touchdowns in the first three minutes of the game. Including a 63-yard pick-six by Brayden Bowman that really set the tone for the remainder of the game.

“We were working all week at practice reading the quarterback,” Bowman would explain afterward. “I don’t know, I [saw] the ball and made the play.”

Simple enough.

Kiski needed that win to stay alive not only in the playoff race, but for the conference title as well. Now, it’s a long shot for the Cavs, but it’s not impossible. Not only that, but the Cavaliers gained 10 Gardner points as well, thanks to Hampton’s win over Indiana last week. Kiski was coming off a 35-7 loss to McKeesport last week and needed a game like this to rebound.

“It was awesome,” Kiski head coach Brayden Thimons said afterward. “The guys responded. That was the big message this week. Nothing in the past is going to affect how we play in the future. Those guys responded and played a full four-quarter game, and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

They were the better team that night. They didn’t let Hampton get anything going offensively and drove the ball down the field at will on offense. Landon Artman connected on some impressive throws of his own in this one. On one, he spun out of a would-be sack by Jacob Stephenson to find Ashton Taylor wide open behind the Hampton secondary.

That’s quarterbacking at its finest. Good for the young man; he’s very talented at the position. Just as impressively, his receivers were getting open. Both Davieon McNeil and Teegan Shirly found space and, at times, danced around Hampton defenders.

Good for Kiski, they deserved a win like this.

As for Hampton…

Yeah…

To be fair, the night actually started out promising. Heath Borgo took a jet sweep to the right and threw a pass to wide-open Tyler Scully, who broke through the Cavalier defense. The pass was underthrown; however, it got Hampton inside Kiski territory early. And then, the rest was history.

A conference title –while still in play—just took a massive blow tonight. And guess who is up next week.

Uh huh…

Look, a win next week will get you right back in it, but McKeesport is a different animal, even without also you know who.

It was really that bad. You could feel the tension outside the locker room, and you could feel it in the press box as well. But there is room to learn and grow. Will this loss come back to hurt them later on? Probably. But that’s why you play 10 of these things.

I’ll keep this one short since I myself have almost nothing to write about. I do believe Hampton will “shake it off,” to borrow a quote from Mrs. Kelce. A good week at practice and a positive mindset can go a long way against a team like McKeesport.

I think this Talbot team should actually take a little bit of advice from what their opponent’s coach said postgame.

“Nothing in the past is going to affect how we play in the future.”

Just something to think about.
