Last Year New Castle beat Montour twice, but this year Montour was able to rally and beat New Castle 26-21 in a key matchup in the Class 4A Parkway conference.
Montour got the ball to start the game and after one play they were already close to midfield but after that penalties stalled the drive and they punted the ball away.
New Castle’s first drive was very similar and they also went three and out. They went to punt it away and Montour fumbled it and New Castle recovered.
After the turnover New Castle had the ball on the Montour 42 yard line. On the fourth play a pass was completed inside the 20 yard line. A few more plays later Marino Graham found Marquise Wise on a 15 yard touchdown pass which made the score 7-0 New Castle with 5:20 in the first quarter.

Montour once again got the ball but they went three and out and punted it away. New Castle had decent field position for their third drive starting at midfield. On third down a pass was intercepted and Montour had a big opportunity.
After the interception Montour had the ball on the New Castle 15 yard line. On the fourth play of the drive Dyllen Liddell scored on a 4 yard run and that tied score at 7 with 36 seconds in the first quarter.

New Castle started their next drive on their own 28 yard line and they didn’t waste a lot of time taking the lead back. On the third play of the drive Marino Graham completed a pass to Mardez Stewart for a 64 yard touchdown pass. That made the score 14-7 New Castle with 11 minutes in the second quarter.
A little later in the second quarter, Montour had the ball around midfield and then they fumbled the ball and New Castle recovered. The drive started at the Montour 33 yard line. On the fifth play of the drive Marino Graham found Abron Dukes. That made the score 21-7 New Castle with 8:08 in the second quarter.

The next Montour drive started at midfield and after a penalty they were into New Castle territory. Later in the drive they went for it on fourth down and a pass was completed which was enough for a first down. Eventually the drive was finished off on a 13 yard run by Zander Stern that made the score 21-14 New Castle with 4:56 in the second quarter.

New Castle’s next drive was into Montour territory but a pass was intercepted. They started the drive at the New Castle 23 yard line. On the sixth play of the drive Brandon Bennett scored on a 1 yard run. The extra point was blocked so the score at halftime was 21-20 New Castle.
The first half certainly wasn’t a pretty one for Montour but despite that it was only a one point game at halftime. “I mean we made some stops in the first half when we needed to, we changed some things here in the second quarter, so we made some adjustments here in the second quarter and it helped” said Coach Cerro.

The third quarter featured opportunities for both teams. New Castle’s first drive was into Montour territory but the ball was turned over on downs. Montour intercepted a pass a little later in the quarter but they couldn’t move the ball.
Late in the quarter, New Castle had another drive into Monotur territory but that drive also ended on a turnover on downs.
After that Montour started the drive at their own 40 yard line. The drive had a lot of runs. After a personal foul penalty Dalton Young found Amari Marshall on a 15 yard touchdown pass which gave Montour a 26-21 lead with 22 seconds in the third quarter.
Young came in for an injured Brandon Bennett and was able to lead Montour to a big win. “He does a lot of things for us, he’s just a good kid who works hard and we needed him tonight, and we’ll need him as the year goes on” said Coach Cerro.
Amari Marshall also had a big night for Montour he had an interception and the game winning catch. “He’s starting to get better and better each and every week, we need him to keep on getting better, he’s an athlete so that helps” said Coach Cerro.
