In a 47-20 win over the Seneca Bobcats, Fairview’s 633 yards of offense helped them break out of the funk after a tough loss last week to Corry, as both they and Seneca came into Friday’s game looking to turn things around and stay near the top of the District 10 Region 3 standings.

For Fairview, they were hoping to reverse last week’s big 54-14 loss to Corry, while Seneca was coming in on the back of a 2-game losing streak. After the Bobcats’ 47-21 loss to Saegertown and a 35-13 loss to Girard, both programs desperately needed a “feel good” moment with just 4 games remaining in the season.

In a game that featured a 5th string running back stealing the headlines, it was Fairview who came out on top thanks to glittering performances from junior QB Cullen O’Connor, and sophomore RB Caleb Ginkel. In his first ever start, Ginkel rushed for 258 yards and 3 TDs on just 19 carries.

This game featured 4 of District 10’s top performing athletes – Seneca’s junior QB Dalton Boyd came in with 967 passing yards, good for 5th in District 10, while his top target, junior TE Donovan Huzinec, is District 10’s leading receiver with 642 yards and 11 TDs coming into the game.

On the other sideline, Fairview QB Cullen O’Connor started the game 2nd in all of District 10 before the game with 1,059 passing yards, and senior all-purpose athlete Joey O’Reilly was 6th in receiving yards with an even 400. O’Connor, began the game 196 yards away from breaking the record of 1,255 yards Vinny Campoli set in the 2023 season, and tonight passed for 233 yards on 17/27 passing and 1 TD, putting his name firmly in the record books as he now has 1,292 yards on the season. O’Reilly, however, was dogged by an injury, and in his place junior WR Nate Adams led the way with 91 yards on 5 receptions, while junior WR Noah Bajek finished with 86 yards and 1 TD on 7 catches to go along with 113 rushing yards and 2 TDs on 8 carries.

The game also saw a near 20-year Fairview record get tied, and in all certainty will get broken next weekend. Senior LB Javis Nesbitt, averaging nearly 12 tackles a game, came into the game only needing 9 to break Pat Michael’s school record of 370 career tackles set in 2007. Nesbitt has been a 4-year starter for the program and has seen his season tackle total increase in every season; 89 in his freshman season, 95 as a sophomore, and 107 as a junior.

Nesbitt finished with 8, and after the game, team statistician Chris Chorney had the stadium PA announcer make sure that everyone at Jack Bestwick Stadium know Javis had tied the record.

After 3 straight home games, Fairview (4-3, 3-1 in Region 3) will hit the road the next two weeks, starting with a rare Saturday afternoon Region game against North East next week. Due to referee crew shortages in District 10, there has been a rise in Thursday & Saturday games over the last few seasons, and next week’s game will be the 3rd time Tigers have faced off against the Grapepickers in a Saturday game since 2023.

Seneca (2-5, 2-2 in Region 3) will finish the season with 3 straight home games starting with next Friday’s Region contest against the Corry Beavers, followed by another Region game against North East, before finishing the season with a non-Region game against Franklin. They will also look to win their first game at home on the season over the course of those 3 games, as Cambridge Springs and Girard have denied the Bobcat senior class a win at Bob Diffenbacher Field in their last season with the team.
