Three! Yes that is the number of the great Sixer Allen Iverson and the guy that the Phillies paid way too much for, and he hasn’t produced enough, that being Bryce Harper. That is the number of weeks left in the regular season, counting this week. It sure seems like this season is flying by faster than any other football season so far. It’s time to take a look at What’s happening in Philadelphia.

Keeping it in the Family: In Sun Valley’s 49-32 loss to West Chester Henderson on Friday. Kicker Nick Nolek broke the school’s record for the longest field goal in school history by nailing a 45-yard field goal. The previous record holder was Novak’s older brother and current Eastern University Kicker John Nolek. Nick Nolek wasn’t done for the night; he later broke his own record and set a Delaware County record for longest Field Goal by nailing a 53-yarder. The previous record for Delaware was held by Haverford School’s Jack Soslow, who nailed a 52-yarder in 2014.

New Career Reception Leader for West Catholic: In West Catholic’s 36-20 victory over Archbishop Ryan on Saturday, West Catholic’s Sya’mir Jackson caught two passes, but they were enough to bring his career reception total to 107, breaking the previous record of 106 held by John Maddox 107.

State Champions Honored: After halftime of the annual Downingtown East-West game held last Friday, the Downingtown Area School District held a ceremony honoring the 1996 Downingtown High School. After dropping their season opener to Allentown Central Catholic, the Whippets reeled off 13 consecutive victories earning themselves the second trip to the state championship, where they faced off against Woodland Hill defeating them 49-19. John Barr was the head coach of the team. Among the standouts on the team was Arlen Harris, who went on to Virginia and Hofstra and then went on to play in the NFL for the Rams. You can read more about the team by clicking Here

Voice of Downingtown Honored: In addition to honoring the 1996 State Champions at halftime of the annual Downingtown East-West game last Friday, the two teams honored longtime PA announcer Len Fredricks, the voice of Downingtown from the 1990s up to the end of last season.

Garnet Valley to Honor Two Teams: Prior to their October 30 home game vs. Ridley, The Garnet Valley Jaguars will honor the 1976 and 2006 teams. The 1976 team is celebrating the 50th anniversary of being the first team in Garnet Valley history to finish undefeated. The 2006 team will celebrate their 20th anniversary of being the first team in school history to capture the District 1 championship.

5th Annual Halloween Costume Drive Underway: Garnet Valley’s 5th annual Halloween Costume Drive that helps support the Nemours Children’s Hospital is underway. From now until Monday, October 25 you may drop off costumes at the new GVHS weight room, which is located next to Moe DeFrank stadium. If you are unable to help but still want to donate you can send a Venmo to @GVFBCoachesfund and the coaching staff will do the shopping for you.
