By halftime, Tycen Norman already had 150 yards on the ground and three touchdowns in Parkland’s 38-7 victory on the road at J. Birney Crum Stadium. He went on to score four times, shining once again in his starting running back role as only a sophomore. Conversely, a smothering defensive line completely shut down the Vikings’ rushing attack and limited big playmakers like Grayson Schmell in the pass game, laying waste to the Vikings’ four game winning streak.

The Vikings went backwards seven yards on their opening possession, quickly being forced to punt the ball away. Parkland took quick advantage after starting on Central’s 37. Finn Coen targeted Jackson Geroulo over the middle from 13 yards out. Geroulo caught the ball in traffic at the five and found his way in for the score. At the 6:59 mark of the first, the Trojans took a 7-0 lead.

Central’s second drive was more of the same, this time netting six yards before a quick punt. Parkland started on their own side of midfield and were quickly penalized five yards back to theiro own 38. But Norman picked up 25 on a run and a pass interference call against the Vikings helped Parkland make up ground in a hurry. Hard running through the middle of the line gave Norman his first of four 5-yard rushing touchdowns. Up 14-0, Parkland never looked back.

The Vikings finally moved ahead on a hookup between Caleb Oswald and Grayson Schmell at the Parkland 40, picking up 28 yards and a big first down. Momentum skittered to a halt, though, when Henry Weikel went up in one-on-one coverage against Tahir Edmondson. Weikel came down with the ball at the five and ran it back 30 yards to get Parkland’s offense back on the field.

A few plays later, Norman was at it again, outpacing tacklers down the far sideline for a 50 yard gainer and taking it in from five yards out for his third score. With 9:58 to go in the half, the rout was on at 21-0.

After forcing another punt, Parkland got the ball back with 6:23 to go before the break. Finn Coen aired one out for David Scherb, who hauled it in for 45 yards, flipping field position one more time. However, the Trojans were held up by themselves, as a personal foul penalty backed them out of the red zone and forced a field goal try. The 40-yard kick was good and Parkland led 24-0. The personal foul was one of ten enforced penalties against Parkland on the night.

Jackson Geroulo returned the ensuing Vikings punt just shy of 60 yards over the left side and down to the Central Catholic 10. Two plays later, Norman punched it in for a third time, this time working his way over the right side for the 5-yard score. As the dust settled on the half, the Trojans commanded a 31-0 lead.

At the break, Parkland had held Central Catholic’s offense squarely in check at just 19 rushing yards and 69 through the air.

And the second half saw Parkland pick up where they left off. Tycen Norman caught a little swing pass on the left side and what should have been a gain of two became a 27 yard pickup when he broke free of an ankle tackle. With 7:51 left in the third, he again capped the scoring drive with another 5-yard score through a whole opened up on the right side of the line. This one put the running clock into effect at 38-0.

Central did find a bright spot when Trey Torres-Johnson, who had been bottled up all night long, finally broke free for 33 yards and a touchdown.

Parkland outgained Central on the ground 229-59 and Tycen Norman averaged over 13 yards per carry to go with his four scores. The victory keeps Parkland in the race with Nazareth and Whitehall for the top spot in the upcoming DXI 6A district playoffs. The Trojans host Whitehall next Friday night. Central will look to take out some frustrations on Dieruff back at J. Birney Crum next weekend.
