After their first home victory in more than one season, J.P. McCaskey returned home Friday night. They looked to bounce back after a tough road loss against Cedar Crest last week. This week, their homecoming night was spoiled at the hands of Manheim Township by a score of 63-14.

To open this one up, Manheim Township set the tone. McCaskey’s offense struggled early as the Blue Streaks made them pay. After a missed 45-yd field goal from Manheim Township, the Red Tornado’s took over on their own 20-yd line. Senior Jaiden Simmons of the Blue Streaks picked off McCaskey sophomore quarterback, Marlon Valentin, ran it back for a touchdown. Manheim Township did not let off the gas after a Quinnes Jones-Hawkins fumble; Manheim Township recovered. On the first play of the drive, Riley Whalen ran 24 yards for the score towards the end of the first. This score gave the Blue Streaks a 14-0 lead.

Offensive struggles for McCaskey continued, while senior quarterback Dayne Byler of the Blue Streaks dialed up a dart in the back of the endzone to Junior Aiden Zulick to extend their lead to 21-0. Starting the second quarter, their scoring barrage continued with a second Riley Whalen rushing score, this time from 13 yards out to make this one 28-0. Towards the end of the first half, McCaskey still could not find a rhythm. Manheim Township added two more touchdowns, including another Jaiden Simmons score to secure a 42-0 lead at halftime.

Out of halftime, the Red Tornadoes seemed to be building some offensive fluidity; despite punting. The Blue Streaks yet again, remained relentless as Carter Ziegler snagged a toe-tapper in the back of the endzone to increase their lead to 49-0. The Red Tornado almost immediately responded with a 60-yd touchdown run from sophomore Johnny Collazo, making this one 49-7. Michael Mellinger followed with a 23-yd catch and run touchdown, due to a Township muffed punt. With the score at 49-14, the scoring was over for McCaskey as Township managed to get two more touchdowns on the board with the last being another pick-6 to end this game at 63-14.

A dominant win for the Blue Streaks as they set their sights back home next week against Reading, while J.P. McCaskey hits the road to battle Hempfield. Manheim Township has tons of momentum to carry, however McCaskey has to get back to the drawing board in preparation for the Black Knights.
