The Easton Red Rovers traveled west on 22 to deliver an impressive 42-14 win over the Liberty Hurricanes. With the threat of rain and thunderstorms in the forecast, the stage was a cold and wet Friday night.

After the first kickoff, the weather didn’t stop the hungry Rovers who swiftly marched down the field. With a short pass at the 17-yard line from QB Zahviay McGurn to Amin Fideen, Easton put up their first 6 points with 8:15 still left in the 1st quarter.

The Easton defense held the Hurricanes on the next drive and promptly capitalized as McGurn found senior Sean McPeek for another Rover touchdown with 2:26 remaining in the 1st quarter.

The Liberty Hurricanes struggled on offense coming up empty in the first half against a fierce Rover defense. While Easton put up another touchdown with 5:22 to go in the 2nd quarter, as McGurn found Fideen once again wide-open from the Hurricane 25-yard line.

In the 2nd half, Liberty came out of the locker room with a spark as QB Alsaiah Gross scrambled to find Greg Tillman in the back of the end zone. With 8:28 left in the 3rd quarter, making it Easton 21 Liberty 7.

The Hurricanes held the Rovers on their next offensive drive, only to quickly turn the ball over as Fideen intercepted a pass from Gross. On the next play, Akhir Brown ran it in from the Hurricanes 11-yard line for another Easton touchdown with 5:08 to go in the 3rd quarter.

The 4th quarter, it was more Rover scoring with an 11-yard touchdown run from Brown, making it Easton 35 Liberty 7.

Easton’s  Cody Werkeiser took over for McGurn with a quarterback keeper to build on Easton’s lead with 4:10 remaining.

With 34 seconds left in the game, the Hurricanes had one final answer, as QB Dominic Fontanez connected with Tillman on a 30-yard pass in the endzone.

Easton moves to 4-4 and Liberty drops to 2-6 overall. Next week, the Rovers will meet Freedom (5-3) on the road, and the Hurricanes will take on Bethlehem Catholic (6-1).
