Campbell held off Towson 24-20 on Saturday, scoring twice in the third quarter and then not allowing a point over the final 19:54. The lead changed hands six times, and the Fighting Camels took it for good on De’Von Thomas’s one-yard touchdown run with 4:54 left in the third quarter.
Campbell struck first on Alex Crabb’s 21-yard field goal at 9:20 of the first quarter, and Towson answered with Xavier Pugh’s half-yard touchdown run at 4:06 for a 7-3 lead. Thomas gave Campbell the lead back at 1:52, scoring from 13 yards out to make it 10-7. Towson went into halftime ahead 13-10 after Jacob Davis found CJ Schaeffer for a two-yard touchdown pass with 1:41 left in the second quarter, although the PAT was no good.
The third quarter belonged to Campbell. A Campbell interception early in the half led to a 22-yard touchdown pass from Kamden Sixkiller to Jyron Waiters, putting the Fighting Camels back on top 17-13. Davis answered with a one-yard touchdown run at 8:34 to put Towson up 20-17. Thomas needed just one yard again at 4:54, and Campbell led 24-20.
The fourth quarter was scoreless. Neither offense found the end zone, and Campbell’s defense kept the Tigers off the board for the final 19:54. Thomas finished with two rushing touchdowns, and Campbell’s 14-7 edge in the second half made the difference. This win moves the Camels to 6-1, while the loss drops the Tigers to 0-8 on the season.
