In what has become in recent years a matchup between two Lehigh Valley powerhouse teams, the Spartans finally come away victorious for their first victory, 17-14 over Northwestern Lehigh since their victory over the Tigers in 2018 in New Tripoli. This victory for Southern Lehigh also snapped a 40-game regular-season winning streak for Northwestern Lehigh.
Starting off the game, Northwestern took the ball and drove 52 yards on 12 plays and found the end zone as Brady Zimmerman took a direct snap on 4th and goal from the 3 to put the Tigers up 7-0 with 5:51 left in the first quarter.

The following possession, the Spartans answered right back with a lengthy drive of their own, which was capped off by a 30-yard touchdown jaunt by Adam Fritts, who took a handoff from Colton Sams 30 yards to the house right up the middle of the Northwestern defense. The score was tied 7-7 with 3:04 left in the first quarter.

The ensuing drive for the Tigers stalled after picking up 2 first downs, and they were forced to punt the ball away to the Spartans. Southern Lehigh once again embarked on a lengthy, 16-play, 76-yard drive, this time capping it off with a 30-yard field goal by Declan Walsh to put the Spartans ahead 10-7 with just 1:38 left in the first half.

Only 2 plays later, Southern Lehigh got the ball right back thanks to an interception by Seiler Hummel, but were unable to cash in on the turnover after being stopped on 4th down at the Tiger 27-yard line. Northwestern took over and found the end zone via a 3-yard touchdown run by Brady Zimmerman to bring the score to 17-14 in favor of Southern Lehigh with 1:03 left in the 3rd quarter.

This scoring play was all she wrote as the final quarter passed without any scores from either side. The Tigers’ last-ditch hail mary from the Spartan 44 yard-line was intercepted, and the Spartans secured a victory they so desperately wanted after years of heartbreak. With the victory, Southern Lehigh improves to 9-0 on the year and will face off against Salisbury (3-6) next week. Northwestern Lehigh drops their first game of the year and falls to 8-1. Next week they welcome Catasauqua (4-5) for their final regular-season game.
