As Nick Miley’s 23-yard field goal sailed through the uprights with no time left, may Trojans fans sat in disbelief. The Zephyrs raced off the field in sheer elation, having erased a 21-point deficit to take the road victory 45-42, the first time Whitehall won at Parkland since 2022 and only the second time since 2001.

Over the last three years, Whitehall had managed seven points in each meeting with the Trojans. But this time around, the Zephyrs came up big in the second half, overcoming a 42-21 deficit that Parkland held with 10:15 to play in the third quarter. Tanner Dogmanits used his legs down the stretch and completed 19 passes to five different receivers, as the offense kept chipping away.

Tycen Norman was the early story for Parkland. He ripped off a 28 yard chunk in the Trojans’ opening drive, plowing through the midde of the line on 2nd & 22 for the conversion. That was his first of seven runs of 20+ yards on the evening and setup Henry Weikel from five yards out, picking his way off the left side. With 6:19 to play in the opening quarter, Parkland led 7-0.

Whitehall had punted on its first drive, but got the wheels turning the second time around. After picking up a first down on a nine yard completion to Henry Shultz, Tanner Dogmanits and the offense got to the line quickly. The sudden tempo change caught Parkland off-guard and CJ Lowe found himself wide open behind the secondary. Dogmanits saw him all the way, rolled left and fired for the 57-yard touchdown, tying the game at 7- with 3:29 left in the first.

Parkland fired back with more Tycen Norman. This time, he chewed up 35 yards off the right side, leading to a nearly identical run over right tackle and into the end zone from nine yards out. The Trojans led 14-7 with :36 still to play in the opening stanza.

The ensuing kickoff pinned Whitehall deep in its own end at the 10. The Zephyrs struggled to run the ball in the first half, constantly coming up against a brick wall that was the Parkland front. Whitehall opened the second quarter with 3rd & 15 from its own 5, in need of a big play to avoid sure disaster. Dogmanits and Lowe hooked up again, this time for 40 yards. However, the drive later stalled in Parkland territory on a 4th & 9 incompletion intended for Rocco Fonzone.

With the ball and the lead, the Trojans needed only six plays to take a 21-7 lead. Norman chewed up another 20 yards, this time running over the left side. Finn Coen then hit Jaren Sanchez for ten yards before going over the middle to Blake Nassry, who came up just shy of the end zone. Henry Weikel gained the final yard.

Jeziah Gregory then made his presence felt. So many moments can get lost in a wild game like this one, but his 50 yard run serveed the purpose of showing the Zephyrs that they could indeed gain some yardage on the ground. Gregory initially ran to the right and was nearly bottled up for no gain, but managed to escape, keep his feet, and break left for the big gainer. Dogmanits finished the job on a draw play, going in from 12 yards out. With 5:16 to go in the half, Whitehall was back within 21-14.

But stop me if you’ve heard this one before–Parkland gave the Zephyrs yet another steady dose of Tycen Norman. This time, he popped through the interior of the line and out the other side for 37 yards, moving the ball down into Whitehall territory. Coen went to Nassry for 23 more. From 11 yards out, Coen threw to David Scherb, who beat tight coverage by Nazavier Calcano in the end zone for the score.

Parklend led 28-14 with 2:25 to go in the half, but we had plenty of time for more scoring. Dogmanits took a deep shot for Fonzone, who laid made a diving snag. Dogmanits then kept it up the gut for a touchdown. Parkland needed only 45 seconds to reply one more time, Tycen Norman again turned on the afterburners and was somehow just barely pushed out of bounds on a 44-yard chase down the far sideline. Finn Coen’s keeper netted him a 15-yard touchdown run and 35-21 halftime lead for the Trojans.

Parkland received to open the third quarter made more quick work of the Whitehall defense. Tycen Norman shredded the Zephyrs for another 43 yards and score. With 10:15 to go in the third, Parkland had its largest lead at 42-21.

But Whitehall showed no quit. The offense grinded away at a ten play drive, ultimately capped by Rocco Fonzone, who was left completely uncovered in the end zone for a 9-yard score. At the 5:39 mark of the third, Whitehall still trailed 42-28.

But after their first six possessions ended in touchdowns, the Parkland offense was nearly silenced on back to back punting situations. Whitehall ended up taking over on its own 19 with 10:16 to go in the game. In search of a big play after a first down, Jeziah Gregory broke through again. This time, he got loose for 60 yards and a touchdown, scampering down the far sideline and into the end zone. With 7:51 to play, Whitehall had cut the deficit to 42-35.

After again keeping Parkland on its own side of midfield, along with a very short punt, Whitehallf got the ball back with 4:12 to go in regulation from its own 31. Dogmanits got time in the pocket to load up for a deep pass, which he completed over the middle to Henry Shultz. Shultz raced the last 30 yards to paydirt. The extra point was good and the ballgame was knotted at 42-42 with 3:34 to go.

Tim Moncman and Parkland faced a decision. After crossing midfield for the first time since the opening drive of the second half, they could drive for a game winning score. However, a 4th & 5 call from the Whitehall 47 saw the offense stay on the field and Finn Coen’s pass fell incomplete for a turnover on downs.

With 1:54, Dogmanits expertly led his offense down the field, picking up gains of down the right side to the Parkland 8-yard line. With :01.6 left on the clock, Nick Miley was called upon for a 25-yard kick. Parkland tried to ice him with back to back timeouts, but his boot was a no-doubter–high and through the uprights for the victory.
