Kiski Cougars Extend Unbeaten Streak to 14 Games

The Kiski School Cougars hosted the Blue Ridge School Barons of St. George, VA on Saturday afternoon in Saltsburg. Kiski came into the contest at 7-0 having won its last 13 football games, while Blue Ridge entered with an even 3-3 record. Kiski overcame a slow start to defeat Blue Ridge 28-7 in the second ever meeting between the two schools.

Once again, Kiski’s defense dominated the game. The defensive front was again responsible for preventing Blue Ridge from sustaining any offensive drives. DEs Owen Urschler and Dayomi Adejumo, along with standout DTs Ryan Chambers, Jr and Jason Gross registered numerous QB sacks, pressures and TFLs.

First Half

Kiski and Blue Ridge would start off the game with multiple penalty-plagued possessions forcing 3-and outs. The Cougars would miss a 30-yard fieldgoal attempt on their second possession. Kiski would finally take over a possession late in the first quarter at the Blue Ridge 46 yard line. A 9-yard Joe Felitsky pass to Omari Shirriel, followed by a 15 yard completion to WR Curty Wade would drive Kiski to the Blue Ridge 11-yard line at the end of the first quarter.  Blue Ridge would force a William LeComte FG attempt. The conversion was good, but Blue Ridge roughed LeComte on the play. Kiski would get a new set of downs, and on the next play RB Mason Jones carried for the Kiski TD. The LeComte PAT put Kiski up 7-0. The Cougar defense kept the Barons in their own half of the field the entire half. Kiski would again drive deep into Blue Ridge territory late. A 6-yard Felitsky to Noa Seyi Onobiono completion on 4th and 5, followed by an 18-yard Jones run set Kiski up with first and goal at the Blue Ridge 10-yard line. Jones would carry the very next play and score from ten yards out to put Kiski up 14-0 heading into halftime.

Second Half

Blue Ridge would come out of the locker room in the second half and start a drive at their own 15-yard line. Several big run plays would move the ball into Kiski territory, however a bad snap resulting in a TFL by Urschler would snuff out the Barons’ momentum. After a punt, Kiski would drive to midfield, however  Blue Ridge LB Xzavion Johnson would intercept a pass intended for Seyi, setting the Barons up at their own 48 yard line. Blue Ridge would finally break through on a 37-yard TD run by RB Jason Bilelo, and K David DiFulvio would add the PAT to cut Kiski’s lead to 14-7.  Kiski’s offense would manage to drive the ball to the Blue Ridge 40 to end the third quarter. Successive pass completions by Felitsky, and runs by Jones and Ryan Crete drove Kiski to the 2-yard line. Crete would punch in Kiski’s third ground TD of the game, extending Kiski’s lead to 21-7 with 10:17 remaining. It would be all Kiski’s defense from here out, as the defensive line was dominating the line of scrimmage. Chambers, Gross and Urschler, along with DE Ethan Chasles, played the entire 4th quarter in the Blue Ridge backfield, blowing up multiple run plays and sacking QB Obryan Bouchard several times. Kiski would add one more score on a drive led by Felitsky’s arm. Felitsky completed a 21-yard completion to Shirriel to drive to the Blue Ridge 25, and then would deliver a 25-yard TD strike to Curty Wade. LeComte’s PAT capped the scoring on the afternoon, putting Kiski up 28-7.

Kiski will attempt to cap a perfect season next Saturday, when they travel to the Linsly School in Wheeling, WV for the finale on Halloween. Blue Ridge School (3-4) will return home to face the Hargrave Military Academy next weekend.
