Bethlehem Catholic ended the regular season on a high note as the Axel Burkart to Carter Vassa connection was on display for 3 TDs. After an initial slow start offensively, the Golden Hawks capitalized on Northampton special teams miscues and finished with a 37-19 win.

Northampton won the toss and elected to defer. Becahi started on their own 30. A deep bomb to Tyre Lewis set up the Golden Hawks in business at the Northampton 14, but the drive stalled at the 10, resulting in an Evan Schultz 27 yard FG. Becahi took a 3-0 lead at the 9:47 mark of the 1st.

Northampton started their 1st possession on their own 43 following a Colby Brearman return. Through back to back offsides on Becahi, the K-Kids were gifted a 1st down at the Becahi 47. However, Northampton turned the ball over on downs at the Becahi 39 on a 4th and 2, where the Golden Hawks started their next possession.

Becahi went 3 and out with the possession, resulting in a punt. Northampton was about to receive the ball, but the punt deflected off of Jorge Lopez’s head, and Becahi recovered at the Northampton 43. The Golden Hawks wasted no time, as Axel Burkart hit Carter Vassa for the 43 yard TD. Becahi led 10-0 with 6:28 left in the 1st.

A Colby Brearman return started the K-Kids possession on their own 30, but they went 3 and out. Tyre Lewis returned the punt for Becahi and they took over on their own 37. On 3rd and 6 from their own 43, Axel Burkart was intercepted by Colby Brearman and Northampton took over at their own 34. A long Chase Kessler run set them up at the Becahi 20, but the drive stalled at the Becahi 23 following a K-Kids personal foul. The 40 yard FG was good from Jaxson Sandt, cutting the score to 10-3 in favor of Becahi with 25.4 seconds left in the 1st.

Antonio Salomoni returned the kickoff to the Becahi 40. Burkart found Lewis and Vassa for a few short passes, before ultimately finding Vassa again for the 45 yard TD strike with 10:53 left in the 2nd quarter that gave Becahi the 17-3 lead.

Colby Brearman returned the kickoff to the Northampton 43, but they went 3 and out and disaster struck on special teams once again for the K-Kids, as the punt snap was botched, setting Becahi up at the K-Kids 23. One play later, Antonio Salomoni ran it in for the 23 yard TD, as Becahi extended their lead to 25-3 following a successful 2 pt try to Tyre Lewis with 9:40 left in the 2nd.

Joell Small returned the kickoff to the Northampton 25. This drive featured many Chase Kessler runs that got them down to the Becahi 31. However, a 4th and 7 pass intended for Seth Silfies fell incomplete, resulting in a turnover on downs and Becahi taking over there.

Becahi got down to the Northampton 5, as Burkart found 3 different WRs on the drive. However a TD to Jaxon Geiger was erased on a hold. The drive stalled at the Northampton 10, but the ensuing FG was blocked. However, due to an inadvertent whistle, Becahi got a reattempt that was no good. Northampton took over at their own 15 and the possession ran out the half. The score stood 25-3 Becahi.

Northampton started the 2nd half with ball and an Evan Kleppinger return set them up at the Becahi 48. They reached the Becahi 27, but disaster struck again, as Armando Thom took a pick 6 back 73 yards, resulting in the score being 32-3 in favor of Becahi with 7:20 left in the 3rd.

Colby Brearman returned the ball to the Northampton 40 to start the next possession. They reached the Becahi 46 before having to punt on 4th and 20. Becahi fair caught the ball on their own 36. Becahi gained a 1st down on a couple Salomoni and Burkart runs, before Burkart hit Carter Vassa for his 3rd TD of the night, this time for 53 yards, as Becahi extended their lead to 39-3 with 11:21 left in the 4th quarter.

Colby Brearman returned the kickoff to the Northampton 35. Joell Small ran for a 65 yard TD, however it was called back on a hold. Small ran again, as well as Robert Wambold and Trevor Messer on the drive. Wambold finished it with a 27 yard TD run to cut the Northampton deficit to 39-10 with 6:40 left in the game.

Becahi received the ball at their own 20 but Jovani Hidalgo Tuff fumbled at their own 23 with Northampton recovering at the Becahi 22. Domoniquee Mosley ran it in from there on a 22 yard TD one play later, cutting the Northampton deficit to 39-17 with 4:46 left in the game.

Becahi took over at their own 48 and eventually kneeled the clock out at the Northampton 37. Final score 39-17 Becahi.

Becahi ended the season at 8-2 as they await their playoff opponent. Northampton finishes the season at 5-5 as they await their playoff opponent as well.

“Our defense played well. We shut down the best tailback in the EPC Conference, which I thought we did a great job of.” said Becahi’s Coach Bernard.
