In the regular season finale for both teams, Fairview (6-4, 4-2 in Region 3) defeated Slippery Rock (3-7, 2-4 in Region 4) 21-0 in a Saturday day game on Halloween at Keck Field at Jack Bestwick Stadium in Fairview. Just 1 season ago, Fairview had to wait until the last home game of the season to experience their first win at home. This year, head coach Mark Soboleski and the Tigers went 4-1 at home, outscoring their opponents 160-102 in the process.

Fairview junior QB Cullen O’Connor went 16/30 for 166 yards and 1 TD, finishing his record-breaking season with 1,769 yards, leaving him just 533 yards away from breaking Tom Rozantz’s career yards record of 2,338 yards, and O’Connor has the top 3 games of the most passing yards in school history after this season as well.

Not to be outdone, Fairview senior LB/TE Javis Nesbitt, who earlier this season set both the career tackles record (371 and counting) and the single season game receiving yards record (154 yards), became the first ever Fairview Tiger to reach 400 tackles in a career, and with his 7th reception of the game broke Jeremy Frazao’s 2022 record for most career catches. Nesbitt’s new mark of 58 in a career is the new benchmark for any player in the Red and Black to try and aim for.

After a scoreless first quarter, junior RB Dylan Hill got the scoring going with a 2-yard TD run in the 2nd quarter, and fellow juniors Noah Bajek and O’Connor would score the other touchdowns of the game as well.

The game also served as a farewell for Fairview’s Mike Parmeter, who after having been on the staff for the past 31 seasons, said goodbye to the Tigers at the end of the game. He told the team that even after 3+ decades, a love of the game kept him coming back season after season, and that he hoped the underclassmen continued to develop their own love for the game.

Slippery Rock’s season comes to a close, and Fairview now waits to see what the District 10 playoff committee will decide. They meet on Sunday, 11/1 to create the Class A-6A field, and time will tell on if they make a field of 6 teams or 8 in Class AAA. If they make a field of 8, chances are Fairview will be chosen for the playoffs, but in a field of 6, they are on the outside looking in.
