Titusville – Fort LeBoeuf rushed for 287 yards as the Bison outlasted Corry, 35-27, in the opening round of the District 3A playoffs at Carter Field.
A season ago, the schools met in the opening round of the postseason, with Fort LeBoeuf securing a 29-12 victory.
Friday night, Corry looked for revenge, but the Bison pulled away in the second half, dominating the final two quarters while pitching a shutout.
“My hat goes off to Coach Goodwill and the Beavers,” said Fort LeBoeuf head coach Justin Blose. “They had a great game plan, and they’re a tough team. So obviously it’s a tough win against a great team, so we’re really proud of the boys and the rally they had in the second half.”
It looked more like a horror movie set than a football game. A deep fog set in, reminding us of the Fog Bowl Game between the Eagles and Bears in 1988; Fort LeBoeuf set a pair of rushers over the century mark en route to victory.
Quarterback Dominic Walters and tailback Aiden Struchen combined for 290 yards, accounting for 101% of the team’s rushing total. Struchen ran for 178 yards on 29 carries, while Walters piled up 112 on only nine attempts.
“We’re young, and we’re banged up up front,” said Blose. “We have a couple of key guys that have been out all season. But our region really helped hone our craft. That made us tougher. We trusted those kids, and that’s why they’re our starters. We told them that we’re going to run behind them all night. Aiden ran hard all night, and Dominic did a nice job controlling the offense. It was just a great team effort.”
Walters got things going immediately, running an option keeper 50 yards for a touchdown on the third snap of the game, giving the Bison an 8-0 lead following a botched snap that resulted in a 2-point conversion.

The teams traded scores for most of the first half as the Beavers responded on Lamech Albers’ 1-yard touchdown run near the first quarter’s midpoint, pulling within 8-7 after a 9-play, 65-yard drive.
Aiden Struchen then ran 48 yards before capping the 3-play, 62-yard drive with a 10-yard scoring run on the initial play of the second stanza.
Pulling to within a point again, Corry capped a 6-play, 60-yard drive with Albers 28-yard touchdown pass from Jack Vanchieri. Lamech Albers led the Beavers with seven catches for 74 yards and rushed for 53 yards on eight carries.
The Bison then capped a 6-play, 65-yard drive with Walters’ 15-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Blose, giving Fort LeBoeuf a 22-14 lead with 7:34 to play in the first half. Walters completed 5 of 9 passes for 64 yards.
Late in the first half, Corry appeared to seize the momentum as, following a punt and taking over in plus territory at the 36-yard line, Vanchieri launched a pass to the end zone, where Connor Sterling made an outstanding diving reception for a 36-yard score with 1:42 to play.

Despite failing to pull even on the 2-point conversion, the Beavers recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff at the Bison 27-yard line. Three plays later, Sterling scored on a 14-yard touchdown run, which is a bit of a statistical anomaly.
Vanchieri fumbled the option pitch at the 19-yard line, five yards behind the line of scrimmage, giving him one rush for zero yards, while Sterling picked up the ball and ran 14 (technically 19 yards) for a score, giving him 14 rushing yards on zero carries. He finished the night with 1 carry for 42 yards and a touchdown, and caught two passes for 44 yards.
Corry took the 27-22 lead in the locker room and seemed to have all the momentum as they took the second-half kickoff.
Even though the game’s momentum seemed to be against them, Fort LeBoeuf took control after forcing a punt to begin the final 24 minutes.
Struchen had consecutive carries of 14 and 24 yards, along with a 15-yard penalty against the Beavers, as his 24-yard sprint put the Bison ahead for good, 28-27, with 9:54 to play in the third quarter.
“My hat goes off to the kids,” Blose said. “We made some adjustments, but really it was that they had to play football. They believe in each other. They became tighter as the game went on. I think that’s what you saw; you saw a defensive stand because they became tighter as a family.”
On their ensuing drive, the Bison gave themselves some breathing room when Struchen capped an 8-play, 70-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown run.
“This feels good; they’re a hard-fought team with a great coaching staff, so a playoff win definitely feels good,” Stuchen said. “The first half was a little rocky. They got some dudes, and came out swinging. Our offensive line killed it tonight. That scoreboard would not say what it says without them. They stepped it up; Dominic is that guy too. Without the threats we have a receiver, Dominic, and, I guess, myself, we can’t run an offense like this, so it’s great.”
Corry made one final push to pull even when they faced a 4th-and-6 at midfield with just under five minutes to play. The Bison defense forced an incomplete pass and then ran out the final 4:36, securing a date with Hickory next week in the District 10 AAA semifinals.
The Hornets beat the Bison 56-13 on October 9th; Corry concludes their season at 8-3.
