Abraham Lincoln runs past West Philly to open league play

The Railsplitters Friday afternoon hosted the West Philly Speedboys to begin league play. Coming into Fridays game Lincoln sat at 1-2 with both losses coming in lopsided defeats to District 1 teams Chester and Coatesville. Friday the offense was able to get started early and never looked back. Lincoln scored twice in the opening quarter to hold an 12-0 lead. Led by an offensive line that boosts all underclassmen the Railsplitters controlled the line of scrimmage most of the afternoon especially in the first quarter. New Sr. QB Kendall Jackson was effective on the ground and through the air while a trio of rushers led by So. RB Malachi Bobo, Sr. RB Darelle Rutridge, and Jr. RB John Nichols. Other stars for Lincoln were Sr. WR/DB Nazir Holley & Jr. athlete Issaiah Muhammad. All of those players scored as Lincoln built an 42-6 lead at the half. For West star RB Jahsir Newsome scored for their lone score in the first half.
While down big at the half West continued to battle and scored two touchdowns in the second half one by QB Ahmeir Greene and the other by WR A’Kar Archer. Lincoln would run the clock out under a running clock in the 2nd half for a 48-20 victory. As mentioned earlier this Lincoln team is extremely young but also equally talented. The offensive lineman are Fr. RT Syncere Watson, So. RG Jaylen Harding-Smith, So. C Matthew Rodriguez-Torres, Jr. LG Sincere Johnson and Jr LT Mason Jones. Assistant HC Joe Digrazio a former star player at Lincoln from 2002-2005 stated “the young pups have been working hard all offseason”.
Lincoln celebrates this win this weekend and immediately turns their attention to their next opponent Imhotep Charter. Last season Lincoln upset Tep in the regular season finale to earn a playoff berth. That win ended a remarkable 5 year run of going undefeated against public league foes for Tep. Lincoln would ultimately would fall to Tep in the rematch in the public league championship.
West will turn their attention to another division opponent Northeast whom they will host next Saturday at noon.
