It was Bellwood-Antis’s annual Sideline Cancer Homecoming game last Friday. The Devils came into the game at 4-1 and faced off against the Phillpsburg-Osceola Mountaineers who were also 4-1.
Bellwood received the ball to start out the game and drove right down the field and punched it in with a 4 yard Alex McCartney run. The extra point by Miles Smearman would be no good.
Phillipsburg got their fair ups, but the Bellwood defense would prove to be too much as Bradyn Partner would make a diving interception on fourth down to set the Devils up in the redzone and Chase Plummer would punch it in for 6, extra point was no good again.
the next drive for PO would be a crucial one, being down 12-0 and needing to score, but it would not end the way they wanted it to, on the second play of the drive. McCartney would tear the ball away from the running-back and take it to the house for 6 . A penalty on the PAT would push the devils back, but Head Coach Nick Lovrich was deep in his bag and a trick play on the PAT to Caleb Plummer would extend the Devils lead to 20.
The Devils would control much of the 1st and 2nd quarter , but with 3;16 to go in the 2nd a good drive for the Devils would be capped off by a McCartney run for 6, his 3rd of the night. The PAT was good and the Devils would extend their lead to 27.
At halftime Senior Julie Kraft was crowned as Homecoming Queen and the Bellwood-Antis homecoming courts would raised 6,700$ for a community member battling cancer.
Once again Bellwood’s defense shut down the offense of PO and get the ball back running and wasting most of the 3rd quarter, to set up a Partner scramble towards the endzone for a touchdown , the devils lead extended to 33.
For the rest of the game it would be the same, The Phillpburg offense couldn’t get much of anything going, Bellwood’s defense was just too stifling,
Bellwood would go on to win the game 33 to 0. Improving their record to 5-1, the Devils will face off in a highly anticipated matchup against Bishop Guilefoyle at Mansion Park at 7 o clock next Saturday.
