Benedict Tigers pulled away from Clark Atlanta on Saturday, cruising to a 31-3 win behind a balanced offensive attack and a defense that kept creating turnovers. Clark Atlanta struck first on a Cedric Oglesby field goal from 37 yards out with 7:15 left in the first quarter, but Benedict answered quickly and never trailed again.
Chris Johnson powered the Tigers’ offense, scoring on a 2-yard run to open the second quarter and later breaking off a 29-yard touchdown run to close out the third. A Zane Spires field goal right before halftime pushed Benedict’s lead to 10-3, and the Tigers kept the pressure on from there. Curtis Favors Jr. hauled in a spectacular 13-yard touchdown catch from Jett Peddy early in the third quarter to make it 17-3.
Joshua Lee was the story on defense, picking off two passes to help shut down any Clark Atlanta comeback hopes, including a key interception late in the third quarter that set up more Benedict scoring. A’chean Durant capped the rout with a 52-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, extending the lead to the final 31-3 margin.
With the win, Benedict improves to 4-1 on the season, showing off a offense that can both grind it out on the ground and strike through the air, paired with a defense that’s forcing the kind of turnovers that turn close games into blowouts.
