Undefeated Shamokin Area traveled to the Eagles’ Nest at Blue Mountain on senior night. A tightly contested first half saw the teams move up and down the field trading scores. Blue Mountain would ultimately take a 7 point lead to the locker room with Shamokin looking to make up ground in the second half. Despite 3 strong drives for Shamokin that all took them deep into Blue Mountain territory, they were unable to score. Each drive ended differently with a fumble, a turnover on downs, and ultimately an interception thrown by Shamokin QB Logan Steele. That interception was returned 99 yards for an Eagles TD. Steele would go out of the game injured after trying to make a tackle on that return. From here, Blue Mountain put their ground game to work and drained most of the fourth quarter clock punching it in to extend their lead to 34-14 which would ultimately be the final score. A huge win for Blue Mountain on senior night and a crushing defeat for Shamokin. This sees the Indians drop their first game of the season and they now sit at 8-1. Blue Mountain improves to 8-1 themselves and adds a signature win to their resume’. Shamokin will look to bounce back next week with a tough game at home against Mount Carmel while Blue Mountain will take on struggling Lansdale Catholic.
