On Friday night, the Cedar Crest Falcons flew past the J.P McCaskey Red Tornado on their homecoming game. With a packed house under the lights of Earl Boltz Stadium and Officials Appreciation Week, the Falcons soared back in the win column dominating McCaskey, 41-6.

This game wasted no time bringing action and fans to their feet as Cedar Crest took control early. McCaskey’s first drive ended in zero yards and a premature punt. The Falcons responded immediately. A 22 yard punt off the leg of the Red Tornado’s Haneef Porter gave Cedar Crest possession at the 44 yard line. On their very first play from scrimmage, the senior Army commit, Isaiah Zimmerman ran 44 yards for the touchdown, setting the tone early in this matchup.

Following Zimmerman and his defense was his junior quarterback, Steven Reyes building trust with favorite target in this one, Antonio Tirado. The fellow juniors were responsible for 33 yards in the air on this drive. Despite Tirado being targeted twice on this short drive, penalties gave Reyes more room to deliver a touchdown strike to his star wideout, Kai Speaks from 37 yards out. This stretched their lead to 14-0 with 5:37 remaining in just the first quarter.

The Red Tornado struggles continued as they found themselves inside their own 5-yd line on the Cedar Crest kickoff. Inching their way out to make this drive productive, they managed to get out to their own 29-yd line. That was when junior Antonio Tirado made his presence known on both ends intercepting a Marlon Valentin pass for a touchdown. 21-0 was the score, as the Red Tornado offense trotted off the field looking defeated.

A few minutes later, McCaskey found themselves with the last possession of the quarter. Largely due to senior Jahsier Reeves production, they were in a 4th down territory situation. Red zone offense troubles were present tonight after Marlon Valentin forced them into a 4th and 20 after taking a 3rd down sack. With field goals being virtually worthless in their deficit, they elected to go for it. For the Red Tornado, this decision cost them as Marlon Valentin overthrew his target for a potential score.

Cedar Crest did not let up as they put together an efficient drive down the field soon after. Reyes and Tirado continued connecting as Zimmerman worked on the ground. Despite their efficiency, Isaiah Zimmerman had to be carted off the field this drive due to an apparent knee injury. That seemed to fuel the Falcons more as Reyes later dropped it in the bucket for his sophomore receiver Jackson Smith’s 9-yd touchdown contribution. Now 28-0 narrowing towards halftime and the Red Tornado brought in quarterback Jahnell Tucker in relief of Marlon Valentin. The change in quarterback still halted drives and gave Cedar Crest good field position.

With Isaiah Zimmerman out for the remainder of this one, it was the Eddiel Nunez ground game that carried them through the rest of this game. Just shy of the half way point, Nunez and Kai Speaks of the Falcons were in the red zone again. Eddiel Nunez had then extended their lead to 35-0 at the halftime mark.

Cedar Crest had possession out of half and no mercy was shown. Again, it was Nunez on the rushing attack until Steven Reyes found a favorable target of his, Antonio Tirado for a 9-yd touchdown completion, making this one 41-0 after a missed PAT. The Red Tornado had finally found some momentum later on and got on the board courtesy of a 1-yd Bruszavion Baisch rushing score to end this ball game at 41-6.

McCaskey is now 1-6, while the Falcons rise to 5-2. The Red Tornado look ahead to returning home for their very own homecoming game next week against the Manheim Township Blue Streaks, while the Cedar Crest Falcons look to continue to impress their home fans next week against the Dallastown Wildcats.
