Central Bucks West beats North Penn 28-26 with comeback victory

Entering War Memorial Field, CB West came off a heartbreaking 14-7 loss to Pennridge, in which they found their first loss of the season. In doing so, CB West looked for revenge, beating North Penn 28-26 after a less than stellar first-half. North Penn entered halftime up 20-7, in which they had three touchdown drives and stuffed the run-dominant game of CB West. Yet, leaving halftime, CB West presevered, focusing on shutting down star running-back Rylei Gray, who had two touchdowns in the first half. Then, after 21 points went unanswered by North Penn, they marched the field with a minute remaining, punching in a touchdown to make it 28-26, before not completing the two-point coversion to tie the game, where Louie Cipollo intercepted the pass of London Evans, sealing the game 28-26.

 

North Penn started the game focused on passing the ball, as Rylei Gray caused a loaded box for CB West’s defense. Early, North Penn stopped CB West, then continued with a passing masterclass by London Evans to Ziyon Smith.

With a 7-0 start, North Penn continued an aggressive halt to CB West’s run-dominant game, stuffing the Bucks and returning a punt to the 40-yard line, where London Evans scrambled for a 55-yard gain, before being taken down on the goal-line.

After London Evans’ scramble, Gray found the ball on the 2-yard line, punching in a touchdown to bring the North Penn Knights up 14-0.

After North Penn forced two early stops for CB West, the Bucks decided to throw on third-down, where Ziyon Smith deflect a pass for a third-down PBU.

Yet, Gray’s punt return was bobbled, and the Bucks fielded the ball on the 25-yard line, where Braylen Cape converted a first-down, allowing a Louie Cipollo touchdown on the goal-line. The Bucks showed their first signs of momentum in the context, bringing it to a 14-7 game.

So, in response, London Evans went back to the air, finding junior Duke Horgan for the 50-yard gain through the air.

Then, Rylei Gray wheeled out the backfield, running in a sideline touchdown for his second touchdown of the game, making it a 20-7 game entering halftime with a missed PAT, a miss that would come back to haunt North Penn.

Rylei Gray continued, with a 20-yard reception as the second half begun.

After a stop for the Bucks, CB West threw a third-down vertical to Louie Cipollo, who bobbled a one-handed pass covered by Rylei Gray.

But, Cipollo’s pass showed the aggressiveness of CB West leaving halftime, as they marched the field in their next possession after a clumsy fumble by North Penn, making it a 20-14 game.

Will Rittenhouse ran for a first for North Penn, as the pass-game became the focus of North Penn, picking up a first down and more.

CB West stayed composed, causing a punt and completing a 50-yard drive, topped off by a Josh George touchdown on second down, giving the Bucks their first lead of the night in 21-20, and also giving the momentum to CB West.

Then, after two incomplete passes by North Penn, CB West dwindled the clock to 3 minutes, before Nick Miletto punched in a touchdown for the Bucks. With a completed PAT, the Bucks went up 8 with two minutes remaining for North Penn to retaliate.

And after five straight completions by London Evans and a field-driving possession, the Knights found themselves on the goal-line, where Evans found Duke Horgan on his third touchdown of the night.

Yet, in anticipation for another pass, the Bucks spread their linebackers across the goal-line, where Louie Cipollo found Evans’ pass over the middle, intercepting the slant pass and sealing the game for the Bucks.

Central Bucks West moves to 4-1 on the season and 1-1 in league play, and will play at Abington next Friday. North Penn moves to 3-2 on the season, falling to 1-1 in league play. North Penn will play Neshaminy next Friday.
