District 12 Week 1 Recap

Week 1 saw a few upsets, a few blowouts and a few competitive games within District 12 including some key out of state games.

CL RED: 

Paramus Catholic 35 LaSalle 14: La Salle jumped out to an early 14-0 lead before surrendering 35 unanswered points to the #3 NJ team. Sr. RB Ahzir Nelson scored both of La Salle’s touchdowns in the first quarter.

St. John’s Bosco (CA) 45 Roman 25: After being down 31 points in the first half Jr. QB Jahmil Hawkins in his first start rallied Roman to toss 3 touchdowns in the loss. Roman will look to regroup as they come back home to host NJ Powerhouse Don Bosco Prep.

Father Judge 16 Archbishop Ryan 13 OT: Judge rallied down 7 with under 2 minutes left after a great defensive strip and return set up a short touchdown run with under a minute left in regulation. A 3rd down FG in overtime sealed the win for the Crusaders.

Cardinal O’Hara 48 Audenried 0: The Lions rolled past Audenried for the second consecutive season. Up next for O’Hara is an matchup with Conwell Egan in a game with huge 4A PCL Playoff implications.

St Augustine 24 Bonner-Prendie 20: The Friars led by Sr. QB Noel Campbell (10-22 127 1 TD, 8 rushes 65 yards), Sr. RB Mekhi Martin (16 carries, 97 yards & 1 TD) & Musa Bradford (2 receptions, 51 yards) fell after surrendering a 4th quarter touchdown. Bonner looks to regroup this weekend when they take on Archbishop Ryan.

CL BLUE:

West Catholic 26 John Carroll (MD) 13: RB Francis Loua had a career day on the ground with 120 yards and 2 touchdowns. Sr. QB Josiah Everett threw for 130 yards & 2 touchdowns in the win. LB Zymir Langerston racked up 9 tackles and 3 sacks while DB Tyree Wilkins added 9 tackles and an interception in the win. West Catholic will battle Dover (DE) this Friday evening.

Archbishop Carroll 23 Marple Newtown 7: The Patriots debuted the season with an upset of Marple Newtown thanks to Sr. WR/DB TyTy Mattison who recorded a 55-yard touchdown reception. Also getting in the scoring action was Trevon Veney who returned an interception for a touchdown. Freshman QB RJ Finlaw finished with 124 yards in the air and a rushing score. Carroll will travel to District 1 Bristol for a non-league game Friday evening.

Archbishop Wood 35 CB South 17: Sr. RB D’Andre Webb rushed for 295 yards on 18 carries to go with 3 touchdowns while Sr. QB Jack Drakeley passed for 136 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Vikings win over neighboring CB South.

Pope John Paul II (NJ) Lansdale Catholic 0: Lansdale was led offensively by RB John Cobbold (32 yards), QB Damian Grannum (76 yards) and Saeed Robinson (54 yards) in the loss.

Belmont Charter 28 Neumann Goretti 6: Belmont used a stifling defense to capture a opening night win over NG. Dash Carson recorded 6 tackles, 1 forced fumble and an interception for the Tigers. The defense would record 3 interceptions in the win.

Conwell Egan 39 St. Joes Hamilton (NJ) 7: The Eagles led by Sr. QB Aubrey Kimbrough (209 yards & 2 TDs, 2 rushing TDs), Sakai Hall (53 yards & 1 TD) and Dane Austerberry (4 tackles, 1 forced fumble) ran away with the win.

PUBLIC LEAGUE:

Imhotep 29 Camden 8: The Panthers defense set the tone in the second half with Sr. DB Malik Drayton recording 3 interceptions and So. DL Tristian Alexander recording 8 tackles and 2 sacks. Sr. QB Joe McLeish threw for 150 yards & 1 TD while Jr. RB Yazid McCorkle rushed for 2 scores. Up next for Tep is a date with DeMatha Catholic (MD).

Downingtown East 19 Northeast 7: Northeast defense held DW to just two first half field goals before finally breaking giving up a touchdown in the 3rd quarter. A kickoff return for a score would cut the lead to 12-6 and a late game interception returned for a touchdown would seal the Vikings fate. Northeast will look to get to .500 with Coatesville coming to town this weekend.

Bishop McNamara 23 Abraham Lincoln 7: Sr. WR/DB Nazir Holley recorded a interception and a touchdown in the loss for the Railsplitters who will travel to New York to host Lincoln this weekend.

Central 39 Olney 14: Sr. WR/DB Levan White Jr. caught 5 passes for 112 yards and notched 5 tackles & a sack in the big win over Olney.

Owen J Roberts 35 West Philadelphia 26: Sr. RB Jahsir Newsome ran 25 times for 251 yards & 3 touchdowns in the loss. He also caught 2 passes for 29 yards and a touchdown.
