District 3 standings update

So here’s where things stand as we enter the high school football regular season homestretch in District-3. These rankings are computer generated, with no human input. They are based, naturally, on wins and losses, but with a strong emphasis on strength-of-schedule.

There are six undefeated teams remaining….Manheim Central, Palmyra, Lancaster Catholic, Delone Catholic, York Catholic, and Halifax. Only four have earned the top spot in their respective classification though, as Palmyra stands at #5 in 5A due to a soft schedule to this point, and York Catholic is behind another undefeated team, Delone Catholic, in their 2A group.

Let’s go top to bottom, from 6A down to 1A, and take a look at some of the local teams:

6A – There’s no question about Harrisburg at #1. They’re 6-1, have beaten #3 Central Dauphin and District-6 power State College, with their only loss to the #2-ranked 6A team in the state, Coatesville. Manheim Township, also 6-1, boasts a win against #3 Central Dauphin, with a loss to #5 Wilson. Central Dauphin, 5-2, sits at #3 after surviving as brutal a seven-game stretch as you’ll see. They’ve already played 6A numbers 1, 2, and 5, along with defending 4A champion Berks Catholic. Oh, and they still have #4 Chambersburg and that State College team we mentioned above. And as far as Chambersburg is concerned, the rubber has finally met the road. They face Harrisburg and Central Dauphin in the next two weeks.

5A – Undefeated Manheim Central sits at the top, with the rest playing for the right to finish second to the Barons. Sorry, Palmyra and Cedar Cliff. Very nice seasons so far, but Manheim Central own 5A this season, along with the record for the most District-3 titles in history.

4A – Two seasoned studs, then a couple teams looking for Cinderella’s slipper. Bishop McDevitt sits at the top, with defending champ Berks Catholic creeping up to #3. Milton Hershey, out of the Capital Division, stands at #2, with Keystone Division Susquehanna Township finding their way to #4 after reeling off five straight wins.

3A – Middletown, at #2, is the area’s only team in this classification’s discussion. Their lone loss was to 4A #1 Bishop McDevitt, and they sit behind only 7-0 Lancaster Catholic.

2A – Steel-High will have their work cut out defending their back-to-back district crowns, as they’ll share a bracket with three teams (Delone Catholc, York Catholic, and Upper Dauphin) who’ve combined for a total of only one loss on the season.

1A – No local teams involved. But the remaining undefeated team in the district, Halifax, will likely have little problem bringing home this gold.
