Big Plays Propel Phoenixville Over Upper Perkiomen

PHOENIXVILLE: When you are a four-year starter like Phoenixville’s Kevin Kingsbury you know what your team can do. On Friday night the Phantoms showed off their big play ability after falling behind 2-0 early in the game they rolled up 40 straight points on their way to a 40-14 homecoming victory over Upper Perkiomen Valley.

“We were just executing where it was running the ball, defense, special teams we were just executing, our O-line was blocking great, Talon (Romance) was passing the ball great, it was all connected piece by piece,” Kingsbury said of his team effort.

The Indians started the game with a bang with a 55-yard kickoff return by Jose Montero that gave the Indians the ball on the Phantoms’ 43 but, the Phantoms’ defense made their first big play of the game when Kingsbury intercepted Logan O’Donnell however the Phantoms’ offense couldn’t put points up on the scoreboard keeping the game scoreless.

It was the Indians that found the endzone first with a six-yard touchdown by Zach Schwartz.

After forcing the Phantoms to punt on the ensuing drive the Indian’s offense took, however, the Phantoms’ defense stepped up again forcing the Indians to go backward eventually leading to O’Donnell who was being chased by numerous Phantoms defenders including Kingsbury to lose his footing in the endzone resulting in a safety

On the first play of the second quarter, the Phantoms’ offense got their first big play when Talon Romance connected with Kingsbury on a seem pattern for a 39-yard touchdown giving the Phantoms a 9-7 lead,

On the ensuing Indians drive Bobby Gray intercepted O’Donnell and on the very next play from scrimmage the Phantoms extended their lead with Patrick Carey hauling in a 49-yard pass from Romance for a touchdown.

On the next Phantoms drive, they needed only two plays to find the endzone again, with Kingsbury doing the damage on the ground with a 59-yard score. The Phantoms added a 35-yard field goal by Ryan Jacobson before halftime making it 26-7 heading into the locker room.

On their second drive of the second half, Trey Lear got into the big play act taking a jet sweep for a 42-yard touchdown. Romance capped the scoring for the Phantoms with his 21-yard pass to Chris Mull.

Kane Kier found the endzone for a six-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to pull the Indians to within 40-14.

The Phantoms improved to 7-1 and will host Pottsgrove. The Indians fall 4-4 and will host Pottstown. Both games kick off next Friday at 7 pm.
