Even after being without SR star RB Nyfise McIntyre the Upper Dublin Cardinals (2-0) were flying high on Friday night after they took it to visiting Central Bucks West (0-2) 35-7 in a non-conference matchup in my Game of the Week. Some young guys needed to step up to fill the void and they definitely did.  It didn’t take long for the scoring to pop off when JR TE Shyne Roberts & SR TE Nyles Bunn-McNeill stripped JR RB Conor McFadden on the opening kickoff and JR WR Elijah Smith recovered the ball in CB West territory at the 22-yard line.

2 plays later SR QB Colin O’Sullivan found SR RB Tawfiq Bartlett for a 9-yard TD. The point after was good to make it 7-0.

The Bucks would eat up some clock while stalling out multiple times & then an untimely fumble set up the Cardinals to strike again. This time SR QB Colin O’Sullivan found SR TE Coleman Zamborsky for a 12-yard score to extend the lead to 14-0 after the PAT was good.

Again, CB West had no answer for the defense as they chewed up yards but couldn’t capitalize. Trying to move SR DT Kyree Butler seemed to be an impossible feat.  To close out the first half SR QB Colin O’Sullivan found SR RB Tawfiq Bartlett in the flat for a 6-yard score which extended the Cardinal lead to 21-0.

Central Bucks West came out swinging in the second half and rushed down the field after a few penalties and some big gains that allowed SR RB Eli Boehm to capitalize from 3-yards out to cut the Upper Dublin lead to 21-7 with only 6:37 left in the third quarter.

Unfortunately for the Bucks they wouldn’t find the endzone again the rest of the evening. Later, with only 8:28 left in the game SR QB Colin O’Sullivan found his favorite target SR WR Griffin Pensabene for a 9-yard score to extend their lead to 28-7 after the PAT was good.

The Bucks would get the ball again, but a blown-up play resulted in SR DB Chris Kohlbrenner picking off JR QB Ganz Cooper and allowing the Cardinal offense to eat up clock. With less than a minute to go in the game JR TE Shyne Roberts put the nail in the coffin when he took the handoff from 4-yards out and plowed his way into the endzone for a 35-7 lead after the PAT was good.

After the game head coach Bret Stover was extremely proud of his guys as he tipped his cap to his players for their effort in his post-game speech.  He told his guys, “I’m proud cause you took the coaching, you applied it, and we got better tonight. You took a step up the hill. We were far from perfect, & we got a way to climb but we all got better tonight.”  A handful of players definitely took the absence of starting RB Nyfise McIntyre to heart and filled in nicely. SO RB Dominick Paone shouldered most of the carries and had a great game. He averaged a respectable 5.4 yards per carry. The “next man up” mentality was apparent on the sideline all evening.
